Super Offroad by Virgin has been ported to a ton of systems. It is one of the few games on the PC that can utilize the full 64 color EGA palette! But this version is for the Sega GameGear. It is quite playable, but the tiny display makes every little mistake a grave punishment. Catching up to the leading car almost impossible. Nevertheless a fun isometric racer that perhaps plays better than Micro Machines on this handheld…?

Oof, so this game took way longer to master than planned, only because the achievement maker set some frustrating challenges.

Anyway, this is a cool game I found on the #GameGear
Crystal Warriors.

Imagine Fire Emblem, but the affinity of the character actually means something beyond the support mechanics. Each class has one of four elements, and they are effective or weak against another one. It is a surprisingly tactical game because of this. The level cap is 9, and hitting that cap is pretty much a given and won't make (most of) your characters overpowered

It features perma-death for your characters too and a weird monster taming mechanic, which I seldom used because the monsters very quickly become too weak to be useful, except as meat shields, and even then 99% of the time I'd rather tank damage to retaliate with higher damage.

Worth a look at for anyone who enjoys strategic RPGs and also a bit of a challenge.

Folks, I’m looking at the inside of a Game Gear which does not appear to boot anymore.
First there were artifacts on the screen, now it’s just a black screen and no sound — and no apparent sign of booting a cartridge.

I’m not an electronics person, but I seem to spot some signs of corrosion and my current hope is that maybe cleaning it and a few simple solders may fix the whole thing?

What do you think? Any beginner steps I could read up and apply to attempt reviving this old lady?

Generally I’d like to be better at this, there is some sort of a backlog of fix ups I need to get round to at some point in my life…

Hm, all the replacements have been installed. There are no shorts that I can measure, but the power supply (both the one from this GG as well as from my good one) shut off after a second. There is something going wrong...?
What exactly does one look for in such a case? I never had this after recapping a Game Gear. This is a VA0 European model.

Heavily Modified Sega Game Gear

This was a super fun project which isn't quite completed, but close!

Basically, this is the original Game Gear shell and main board with a new display (BennVenn IPS LCD), Clean Juice power board (featuring USB-C charging and internal rechargeable batteries), and sound board (with crisper audio and all-new components). The main board has been recapped. Also included are seven games: Surf Ninjas, Ecco the Dolphin, Mortal Kombat, The Lion King, Primal Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Wonder Boy.

Now, the bad: I would not consider this complete. The shell in particular still needs some cleaning, and the lens is pretty badly scratched. Some games you may need to power cycle to start (once started, the games run fine). The Lion King cartridge is probably bad, I can't get that one to work. I would not suggest picking this up unless you're prepared to tinker.

Asking $160 shipped.

Memorex Portavision 5" Color CRT Model 17

Tube works fine, the color bars were generated with an HDMI-RF adapter but there's also an RCA input for your older systems. The case is in good shape overall, but feels a bit loose. I'm not sure if this is normal, as I have not torn this TV down for cleaning/repair. The antenna is broken off and missing, but hey - it couldn't pick anything up anyway even if it was present. I do not know if the 8mm player works, as I have no cassettes to test it with. The door may stick when trying to eject, it sometimes needs to be wiggled side-to-side.

Asking $50 shipped.

I have another round of stuff for sale!

Again, a couple rules: I'm going in order of responses on toots (if you just reply with "I want it", that counts). I'll shoot you a DM with my email, and then you have 24 hours to contact me via email and we'll exchange payment/shipping details. I can take Zelle or Venmo. If I don't hear from the first responder within 24 hours, I'll reach out to the second, etc. You can ask for more than one thing! Prices include shipping via USPS in the continental USA (may be able to combine shipping for a small discount).

Bonus points if you use these for something cool. Tag me in your project thread if you do!

Again I apologize in advance for my lack of alt text, but the pics are just proof of the item specs or condition which are already described in the toot. Boosts are much appreciated!

The #github repository of my #sega #mastersystem and #gamegear #emulator called "Masterlator" is now public 🙂 I've rewritten the code in proper C++, use #cmake as the build system, utilize #sdl2 and added a new #debugger with #wladx compatible *.sym file support, memory viewer and tile/sprite viewer. It's rather basic now but will hopefully be a good tool for #homebrew game #development in the future.
