What is the best way to utilise a Pentium IV 32-bit with 1.5 GB RAM that been sitting in a corner for years?
Ran it as a web server until I figured I can run the server on an ultra cheap atom laptop and save a ton of ⚡️.

Linux Weekly Releases (Week 21 – 5/24/2025)

Welcome back to the weekly issue of the new Linux versions that get released weekly each Saturday! We were here to announce the new Linux versions that got released weekly, but we are back to do the same thing. However, we are also redesigning this list to make a table for all Linux versions that got released during each week of each month across the years.

This week, the below Linux kernel versions are released:

Please note that the downloads are in the source code form, so this means that you may have to compile from source in order to use one of the Linux versions shown above. Your distribution might not include the above Linux versions.

Well that was a bit of a scare. During a power outage on Friday my server (at home) refused to power up. Didn't get a chance to look at it until today. Blew all the dust out & connected it to the television. Turns out it was the onboard battery getting old, and all it wanted was for me to plug in a keyboard and press F1.

This PC is an old Intel Core2-Quad - about 15 to 20 years old. It has 4GB RAM. It runs #Linux perfectly well. Five years ago it was my desktop device running #KDE. It is running perfectly well as a headless server. I now just need to replace the on-board battery.

If you're worried about the end of #Windows10. Yes your device will run Linux perfectly well - regardless of the age.

Microsoft has released a neat little Open Source program for #Linux: an #editor for the terminal, called "Microsoft Edit". Yet it's very rudimentary and simple, but it's snappy fast and has the most basic functions you need for editing text files.
Keyboard shortcuts for every function, opening multiple files, search and replace with regex are already on board.
If you quarrel with vim, vi, nano or similar, give it a try! I like it.
