Logistic regression may be used for classification.

In order to preserve the convex nature for the loss function, a log-loss cost function has been designed for logistic regression. This cost function extremes at labels True and False.

The gradient for the loss function of logistic regression comes out to have the same form of terms as the gradient for the Least Squared Error.

One thing that really pisses me off personally is the #regression in terms of #Messenger #Apps.

My personal distaste and dislike for #proprietary, #SingleVendor & #SingleProvider #services like #Signal ¹ ², #Telegram, #Discord ³, #WhatsApp , #Slack, #MicrosoftTeams, etc. aside:

  • WHY is there no #CrossProvider #Messenger to handle that shite?

  • WHY does everyone of these shitty providers think people want to download their #bloated #WebApp that takes up triple digit Megabytes if not entire Gigabytes and will gobble up all the #RAM and #CPU each of them can??

This problem ain't new and already got solved for corporate social media ages ago! (Not to mention actually good messengers!)

So yeah, consider this a call for a @gajim / #Gajim or @pidgin / #Pidgin for garbage platforms!

  • Cuz back in the day we had way worse messengers yet people actually made #AIM, #ICQ, #MSN, #QQ, #IRC & #XMPP work just fine from one single "phat" client!

  • Can we please get that back? Cuz #WastefulComputing pisses me off!

@stman @Sempf @LaF0rge yes.

Because physical SIMs, like any "cryptographic chipcard" (i.e. @nitrokey ) did all that fancy public/private crypto on silicon and unless that was compromizeable (which AFAICT always necessistated physical access to the #SIM, espechally in pre-#OMAPI devices) the SIM wasn't 'cloneable' and the weakest link always had been the #MNO /.#MVNO issueing (may it be through #SocialHacking employees into #SimSwapping or LEAs showng up with a warrant and demanding "#LawfulInterception"):

Add to that the regression in flexibility:

Unlike a #SimCard which was designed as a vendor-independent, #MultiVendor, #MultiProvider, device agnostic unit to facilitate the the #authentification and #encryption in #GSM (and successor standards), #eSIMs act to restrict #DeviceFreedom and #ConsumerChoice, which with shit like #KYC per #IMEI (i.e. #Turkey demands it after 90 days of roaming per year) und #lMEI-based #Allowlisting (see #Australia's shitty #VoLTE + #2G & #3G shutdown!) are just acts to clamp down on #privacy and #security.

  • And with #EID being unique per #eSIM (like the #IMEI on top!) there's nothing stopping #cyberfacist regimes like "P.R." #China, #Russia, #Iran, ... from banning "#eSIMcards" (#eSIM in SIM card form factor) or entire device prefixes (i.e. all phones that are supported by @GrapheneOS ), as M(V)NOs see the EID used to deploy/activate a profile (obviously they don't want people to activate eSIMs more than once, unless explicitly allowed otherwise.

"[…] [Technologies] must always be evaluated for their ability to oppress. […]

  • Dan Olson

And now you know why I consider a #smartphone with eSIM instead of two SIM slots not as a real #DualSIM device because it restricts my ability to freely move devices.

  • And whilst German Courts reaffirmed §77 TKG (Telco Law)'s mandate to letting people choose their devices freely, (by declarong #fees for reissue of eSIMs illegal) that is only enforceable towards M(V)NOs who are in #Germany, so 'good luck' trying to enforce that against some overseas roaming provider.

Thus #Impersonation attacks in GSM-based networks are easier than ever before which in the age of more skilled than ever #Cybercriminals and #Cyberterrorists (i.e. #NSA & #Roskomnadnozr) puts espechally the average #TechIlliterate User at risk.

  • I mean, anyone else remember the #Kiddies that fucked around with #CIA director #Brennan? Those were just using their "weapons-grade #boredom", not being effective, for-profit cyber criminals!

And then think about those who don't have privilegued access to protection by their government, but rather "privilegued access" to prosecution by the state because their very existance is criminalized...

The only advantage eSIMs broight in contrast is 'logistical' convenience because it's mostly a #QRcode and that's just a way to avoid typos on a cryptic #LocalProfileAgent link.

🥳 New Kitten Release

• Fixed regression: Since we switched the h() render function to return a generator (for seamless async support in html templates), two other methods that were calling h() directly – `kitten.safelyAddHtml()` and `kitten.js()` – had begun to fail. This was also affecting the fetchiverse, streamiverse, and kitten-chat family of examples.

Enjoy!

#TIL at work: sometimes, it may be okay to force a linear regression through the origin.

Normally speaking, you should use "y=ax+b" as model for your linear regressions and correlation indices. Because fixing "b=0" introduces a bias in the estimator "a".

However, today, someone argued that if you're using a regression to measure the predictive power of a model with respect to measurement data, you should fix "b=0".

Now, intuitively this makes some sense, but I haven't been able to find clear proof pro or against it.

So, if you know more about this *and* have relevant references to papers to backup your claim, I'd very much love to hear from you. Statistics is not really my field.

Es geht hier tatsächlich um einen Anti-AfD-Schriftzug mit Sprühkreide……

Regensburger Ermittlungsrichter ordnet DNA-Test an

How to assess a statistical model?
How to choose between variables?

Pearson's #correlation is irrelevant if you suspect that the relationship is not a straight line.

If monotonic relationship:
"#Spearman’s rho is particularly useful for small samples where weak correlations are expected, as it can detect subtle monotonic trends." It is "widespread across disciplines where the measurement precision is not guaranteed".
"#Kendall’s Tau-b is less affected [than Spearman’s rho] by outliers in the data, making it a robust option for datasets with extreme values."

Etsy have updated the “dispatched from” filter. I can no longer type “Europe” nor chose it from the list and I’m truly disappointed. As a user I feel my need is totally misunderstood.
Yes, I want to shop more locally, but any neighbouring country is ok. So that’s at least 4. And above all, I want to avoid import taxes. #ux #regression

In a shocking #accessibility #regression, the TescoGroceries website no longer uses headings to show products, either in search results or on shelves. Without headings, screen reader users like myself can no longer navigate on a per-product basis. We now have to move by focusable control, which provides a lengthy and inconsistent way around that we've not had to use for the last decade. This can mean pressing "tab" or similar up to 5 times per product before adding it to my basket, reducing my efficiency accordingly. It's 2025 and we're still seeing ridiculous and 100% avoidable barriers to something as simple as the weekly grocery shop as blind people. Someone should be held accountable for releasing stupid code.
