Matthias<p>I am using <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/xmpp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xmpp</span></a> since the time of windows xp and <a href="https://nerdculture.de/tags/pidgin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pidgin</span></a>. It is sad to see how the ecosystem moved. On Linux the only client available is gajim (there is no realistic way to install dino on Linux Mint). I appreciate the work people do to make those clients but.. it has so much problems. Now it constantly crashes so my xmpp communication is almost gone. Or lets say, my xmpp usage is tied to my smartphone with "conversations" as client.</p>

I am making some big changes to how I do things, including how I livestream and host various products of my math research. I'll be posting about the steps I take as I take them.</p><p>I have switched from <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> to <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Librewolf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Librewolf</span></a> on my desktops. This was pretty easy since I have been storing my bookmarks as a plain text file on my desktop for a while now. Very portable. I just wish <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/VideoDownloadHelper" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VideoDownloadHelper</span></a> worked on Librewolf.</p><p>I am looking into <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XMPP</span></a> now and trying to find a server to sign up for. dynamic<p>This has me researching third party Signal clients, starting with the <a href="https://social.coop/tags/Pidgin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pidgin</span></a> plugin (<a href="https://github.com/hoehermann/purple-presage" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/hoehermann/purple-p</span><span class="invisible">resage</span></a>), which might be nice because I like Pidgin quite a bit.</p><p>But I also came across a 4-year-old Reddit thread strongly warning against third party Signal clients (<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/signal/comments/nz005b/do_any_third_party_clients_for_signal_exist/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">reddit.com/r/signal/comments/n</span><span class="invisible">z005b/do_any_third_party_clients_for_signal_exist/</span></a>).</p><p>Do any <a href="https://social.coop/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> people have perspective on whether there are any third party Signal clients that are ok?</p><p>(boosts appreciated)</p>
