I am no longer sure that the word "smart" is particularly useful in describing anything. Applies to its synonyms, too. I find that values are most useful in describing or defining someone. The values of Alia and the #plutocrats are diametrically opposite of each other. "Smartness" is irrelevant.

Would your antagonist rather travel or be a homebody?
#plutocrats #billionaires are, I imagine, of two kinds - the ones that stay in the secret bunkers/lairs/etc. and the ones that travel all the time. The ones in "A New Faith" are probably of the former type.
Ending public holidays, "freezing" welfare,anything, but, increasing the tax on "the rich". The #plutocrats don't like to talk about that solution.

Does your antagonist (or villain) have a weapon of choice?
Spoiler territory. Maybe not so much a spoiler given how blatant #plutocrats #oligarchs #billionaires are these days in terms of wielding their many weapons. But I feel the one they would likely deploy first is #misinformation #disinformation #rumors - cheap and fast. If that doesn't really get the job done, they will reach for others.

They don't. Alia (main character) - for most of the time - is dealing with the crisis at a personal level. While the #oligarchs #plutocrats are operating entirely at the macro-level in terms of creating the crisis. They couldn't care less about any individual.
Now *that* is just such an apt description of the current #US situation, Vee.
There is one big thing missing, though: the tsunami that is about to hit the #plutocrats in the lifeboat, be it through global warming, nuclear warfare, or a financial meltdown once the greenback loses its reserve-currency status altogether.
The level of public debt is, in comparison to other Western OECD countries, simple unsustainable.
