While AVROTROS acknowledged that rainbow flags are not inherently political, the broadcaster emphasized that the EBU seeks consistency across the event. "A rainbow flag is not a political statement," said an AVROTROS representative. "But the EBU wants to draw a clear line, and that is their reasoning for the decision."

Let me translate that from corporate to laymen terms: "We're bigots, but scared of how that'll affect our bottom-line when broadcasting a historically queer/gay dominated show"

> JK Rowling just showed why supporting “Harry Potter” is harmful to trans people lgbtqnation.com/2025/04/jk-row

FTA: "The only way to combat her anti-trans rhetoric is to let these fictional worlds move into obscurity, rather than boosting them up for another generation to embrace and telling Rowling we want to keep hearing her hate."

Unlearning conformist bigotry is so weird when you've been entrenched in it and brainwashed with it since you were a child. Instead of all those triggers at the world tells you you should be weirded out by, you now have to take that and flip that into celebration

It's very freeing but that freedom is also mildly anxiety inducing as you have to re-learn boundaries of what is actually unacceptable. No, the person showing their interests full blown is perfectly fine and a good thing. Yes, the "cool" people mocking people over being themselves should be viewed as toxic and are not cool at all. Etc.

#socialMedia also moves the "center of attention"

old media: newspapers, tv, radio, it's always been manipulated. but it at least had the pretense of civility. this standard no longer holds as old media fades away and everyone is on social media accepting lying bigoted edgelord trolls as the center of attention

so #bigotry is nothing new, but it is amplified like never before

in this way, #trump is nothing more than our first internet #troll president

@xankarn

it's far simpler than that

they weren't educated, or they were indoctrinated into #bigotry

then they hear a black person or a gay person, a woman or a native american, etc., contributed in some way positively to the #usa

that makes them angry

or they hear about a historical act of bigotry by white people

that makes them angry

and their reaction is to censor it

every accusation is a confession: they say "woke" rewriting of #history is bad, when they are the ones rewriting history

The #DOJ announced it will sue #Maine’s Dept of #Education over its refusal to comply w/demands to ban #transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports, an escalation of a months-long standoff over the issue between #Trump & the state.

Speaking at a news conference, AG #PamBondi accused state ofcls of discriminating against women & endangering the safety of female athletes through policies that support trans inclusion.

#Asexual people have always existed. But in a world obsessed with sex, their existence gets continually erased — sometimes through silence, sometimes through mockery, and sometimes through loud and proud ignorance.
