It would seem that all Pixel devices will require a lot more work to port Android 16 to. It's not impossible, by any stretch, but Google has absolutely stopped helping the community in any way.
This is very bad news, all around. Not the worst news, by far, but quite bad.

Alternative zu #Lineage
Rummaging around (for an unrelated reason) I found my old Google Nexus 9 tablet (with keyboard). Coincidentally, it turns out that I could actually make good use of it in the very near future so I tried to get it going again. What else are weekends for? 
Well, after struggling with Google and its "play" store for several hours, I gave up fighting Google. Instead, I successfully restored the tablet by installing Lineage OS (version 16 aka Android v8). The Google apps did not install for some reason but who cares? I have F-droid, termux, muPDF, openssh, and Emacs! I'm all set.
In terms of hardware, it's actually quite a lovely system, with a nice screen and a very good bluetooth keyboard/case.
Am I missing anything or are all the existing operating systems for #smartphones in the #USA really limited to

As in my tech updates I'm still looking for an open source operating system that can work on a rugged smartphone (cases available for the flimsily designed hardware don't count as the device itself being rugged).

Interesting story about lineage and soccer.
Callum Styles is an English footballer who plays in a second tier league and hasn’t been called up to the English nation team.
In 2020 he finds out his grandmother is Hungarian. The story appears in a match program and a BBC interview. Hungary seeks him out, they talk, and here he is, 4 years later, playing in the Euro tournament for Hungary.

Samsung n8010 running #CyanogenMod 13 
Has sprung back to life and is charging *incredibly* slowly.
Managed to get a modern TWRP recovery on there, so hopefully can bring it up to an unofficial #Lineage.
Not quite retrocomputing, but certainly a blast from the bast 
Note to self (I don't know if anyone else has this issue):
Don't update #LineageOS on your #Fairphone before going to bed, without waiting to reboot after the update.
On my #Fairphone3 #Lineage updates always break apps until first reboot. Last time it was all browsers and email apps. Today it was my clock.
So I didn't hear my alarm to wake up in time to go to work, where I help someone out of bed, onto the toilet and into the wheelchair.
Luckily the phone app still worked and my mom called just minutes before I had to leave.
Without caring for my dog (which my mom will now do) and doing my sports routine, I only need two minutes in the morning.
Anyway, I learned my lesson.
