Inner Monsters don't necessarily look like "real" monsters. They are part of that constant chatter going on in the background of our own minds, shaping our view of the world. They can appear in a variety of forms, from human, animal, monster-like, even as plants! Most of us... ahem... keep our inner beasties tucked "safely" in the closet, hoping they won't decide to reveal themselves at inopportune times, causing all manner of embarrassing moments, like sudden extreme shyness, unexplained crying jags, overwhelming crankiness, or laughing out loud for no apparent reason, among others. Sound familiar?
The solution is (drum roll please...) to MEET your inner monsters, SEEK to understand them, EMBRACE them as yours, and then LEARN about yourself through them. Bring them out of your personal inner-verse and set them free!

the world this little friend is from is still out there. in here. everywhere.

the world of nature and magic and joy. it still exists even though so many humans seem to be trying to eradicate it. but they haven't yet.

honestly i don't know where i'm going with this; things are pretty rough atm and it's really hard to see that world through this one. but it really is there. and it's what keeps me going, i guess (along with my cats obvs).

i've just watched three swallows land on the telephone wire and i can see the totoro tree from the window.

i wish you all something like that today. even if it's just a brief flash of peace and wonder, and even if it's tinged with sadness, it's worth more than i can say.

Jonas Witsen inherited the Waterland, Surimombo, and Palmeneribo plantations from his wife Sara Scharphuijzen. He sent the painter Dirk Valkenburg to Surinam to inspect these sites. In the foreground of the painting are some Lokono, among the original inhabitants of this region. The many people who worked in slavery on the plantation are missing in this representation.

Fantasy Basel is over and I'm slowly recovering at home after this exhausting but wonderful weekend ! I'm happy and a little bit proud to have survived my biggest con ever, first outside of UE, and will come back gladly next year. Now, let's prepare the next one this weekend (luckily I live 3 tram stops from the con center so it will be easier^^).
