Does anyone know of a #3Dprinting resource that explains how to *work* with #fusion360?
My dad has decades of experience with #Autocad and 2D drawing but that was some time ago, way before his retirement. He is pretty good with computers, but the 3D way of working and Fusion itself are a challenge. The standard Fusion books appear to be light on the process/strategies of using the app.
Anyone have recommendations?

Trying to parameterize a bike strap model to motr easily make different lengths. It starts off with a coil (which determines length, thickness) which is extruded. Then an oval hole is made added with pattern on path used to replicate it down rest of the band. Overall most of it works when changing length, but pattern on path gets messed up. I think it boils down to start point needing to be dragged back to original hole, then distance and quantity manually adjusted. Just wondering if there's a programmatic way of doing this instead of manually editing features each time. I suppose learning Freecad might be long term an option.

Was about to start the ”final” print of 2 drive sleds after much testing fits in the panel/bay and what not when I suddenly realized I had not checked if the actual drives fit in the sled… Thankfully it does. And the screwholes even line up. #3dprinting #homelab #fusion360

Dafür hab ich den #3DDrucker. 
Die Schubladen an meinem IKEA Schubladen-Dings gingen auseinander. Bei einigen Modellen hab es so einen Plastik-Schnubsi, den man in die Schublade schraubt und dann wird der Boden an die Rückwand gezogen.
Kurz #Fusion360 angeworfen. 15 Min später lag das Dings gedruckt vor mir. Und es funktioniert.
Geil.
@IceWolf @requiem - yeah, tried #fusion360 as well - it's nice, but in the end, I wanted to invest time learning something that I would always have access to without a cloud subscription. I'd say submit suggestions on usability for FreeCad - have found them responsive and I do think they are trying slowly to make things better. At some, might need to pull the code and start making PRs ;)
Last night, we were in the local Staples office supply store and my wife got a container of paper clips. Unfortunately, it was juuust too tall for the drawer she wanted to put it in.
#3DPrinting to the rescue! I brought up #Fusion360 and designed a box just like the one she bought but slightly shorter and in her favorite color.
Viola, it fits in the desk drawer and her inner child is happy.

I’m starting by redrawing some of my easier fusion models before I jump into the tricky ones.
The toponaming fixes and reusing sketches are changing the game for me and the three variants of my wire rack knocked together real quick.
Alright, let's try this. My dad wants to switch to Linux, but one of the main programs he works with is Fusion 360 - which doesn't work on Linux.
Does anyone have an idea for an alternative, or does anyone know about a way to make it work in a stable way under Linux without tinkering too much?

Finally, frickin finally. And hey it only took the small company Autodesk two+ years to make an Apple Silicon version of Fusion360, so how long could it take to fix "windows on top of other apps"? About six years I think. To their credit, it seems like Fusion doesn't take up 25% of Macbook Pro M1 Max CPUs while sitting idle with no documents open. So yay?!

Okay I’ve found a workflow for this for now. Without too much effort, I can accurately apply silkscreen textures to STEP files in Fusion 360 that were exported from KiCad. Video below. In short: use a custom Fusion “Appearance” w/ image texture; do not use decal or canvas because they suck.

KiCad wise people! Is there a way to get a PCB 3D model with silkscreens into Fusion 360? The Export->STEP function works great, but STEP doesn’t have textures, so no silkscreens. The .WRL files created by Export->VRML aren’t importable by Fusion 360? Help?

Say I wanted to do #3Dmodeling (for #3Dprinting), which #CAD software should I go for? Maker, selling some stuff. Parametric is a must.
I use #Shapr3D which is great but getting pricier ($300/year). My subscription is up for renewal and I’m on the fence. I don’t know if I want to get into #Fusion360 because I don’t trust Autodesk (free for <$1000 profit, $680/year otherwise).
Oddly enough, #SolidWorks has a maker version now ($48/year for <$2000 profit, a bajillion otherwise).
Anything else?
