It's these types of details which help make Glasgow's traditional architecture so distinctive, and that are missing from so many modern buildings. As a result, Glasgow is gradually losing one of the aspects that makes it a unique place to live and to visit.
Today I visited Glasgow's only known pair of architectural walruses as they're amongst my favourite sculptures in the city. They're on the 1899 Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation building (also known as Ocean Chambers) on West Regent Street in the city centre.

I love the way glazed bricks have been used to add decorative elements to the facade of this section of a Victorian weaving factory on French Street in the Dalmarnock area of Glasgow. It's small features like this which really help to make buildings stand out, but that are all too often missing from modern buildings.
Surely the #Andor set designers love Pier Luigi Nervi like everybody else who knows about his work. I certainly do.

There is an interesting story behind construction of this modern residential #skyscraper, which replaced the old tower, that was a high grain silo of a similar height and shape.
Gateway to Emergency
Luckily, the emergency turned out well for my relative. I was just the emergency driver.
One of the few surviving traditional buildings in the Glasgow'a International Financial Services District just visible between the rather soulless and generic-looking modern buildings which now dominate the area. If it wasn't for survivors like this, you'd never be able to tell which city it was in.
I've yet to come to a conclusion as to whether or not I actually like them, but they're certainly better than many more recent developments, and much of the housing built in the 1960s and 1970s.

Modern tenement style buuldings on Saint Vincent Street in the Anderston area of Glasgow. Built in the 1980s or early 1990s (I'm guessing), they feature details, such as oriel windows and arched dormers, which can be found on the city's traditional tenements and townhouses without crossing the line into pastiche territory.

Saint Brigid's Church on Prospecthill Road on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed by Thomas S. Cordiner, it was built in the mid-1950s. Love the triangular profile.
