David Castleton (Author)<p>On a roundabout in the Elephant and Castle, South London, is a mysterious boxlike structure of stainless steel panels. While some claim the box is a bizarre work of art, others feel it must have a more practical function. The structure is actually a memorial to scientist Michael Faraday, who made important discoveries regarding electromagnetism and was born in nearby Newington. A lightshow illuminates the cube every evening after dark. According to urban legend, the electronic musician Aphex Twin was said to live inside it. This rumour may have been started by Aphex Twin himself and the box appears in one of his videos. No one, however, could live inside the cube as it houses an electricity substation that powers the Northern and Bakerloo Tube lines. Originally, the box was to have been glass, enabling the electrical workings to be seen. <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/urban" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>urban</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/London" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>London</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/psychogeography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>psychogeography</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/history" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>history</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/weird" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weird</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/cities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cities</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a></p>

La Halle au Blé d’Alençon (1806-1812) dans l’Orne.
