but this looks like your typical "industry devs suddenly realise that without corporate backing and project management games of this scale are impossible to make" scenario
ethical, independent gamedev must be scaled down, and both creators and gamers need to embrace that fact
Instead of playing anything from my backlog I decided to head right to the next Ys game. I am skipping I and II for now, so I play the follow up to X: Nordics with Memories of Celceta. And I sure as hell enjoy it!

The series' second installment, Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica, was released in Japan in 2007 and in both North America and Europe in 2009.
Though superficially similar to its predecessor in both aesthetics and style, Ar Tonelico II's battle system is new, removing the ability to jump and the platforming sections.
The game was praised in Japan, but many fans have criticized the US release for bugs and glitches.

Ar tonelico is a multimedia project series consisting of role-playing video games, manga and an anime.
The first game "Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia" was released in 2006 in Japan for PS2. 
In Europe it was released in 2007 in very limited quantities only in France, Italy, and Spain and as such European copies of the game are rare and the very existence of the PAL version remained widely unnoticed.

Final Fantasy XII from 2006 introduced several innovations to the series like an open world, a seamless battle system and a controllable camera, allowing for a 360° view of the surroundings. 
Its also the first entry in the main series not to include random encounters. 
The game once held the Guinness World Record for longest development period in a video game production, with a total of five years, spanning from 2001 until its release in 2006.
Fourth game I finish this April: #CassetteBeasts for PC. This is the most modern game I have played in a long time, and also one of the best ones! My only regret is not playing it way sooner, such a good vibes #JRPG.
Baulder's Gate 3 (2023), Metaphor Refantazio (2024), both turn-based, both Game Of The Year for many publications. We get another turn-based GOTY contender & yet each year we get articles from GAMER sites "discovering" turn-based??

I've been leery of giving Capcom my money since that business about adding Enigma DRM to already-purchased games, and I haven't bought much from GOG since switching to Linux as my primary gaming OS, but I want to encourage this kind of preservation effort so I might go ahead and grab it. It's GOG, so at least we know they won't be adding DRM.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reviews are being published and it seems that everyone agrees on how good it is. A J-RPG made in France, with a new take on turn by turn combats, that isn't 100+ hours long.
It seems I've found what I'm playing next!

It's time to take care of a PS2 Fat with 28! games, some of them I've never seen before, and boxed Wii with 5 games. 
First game I finish this April: #FinalFantasy IV for the #PSP, and what a game! This is already my favorite Final Fantasy game, and one of the best #JRPG I've ever played, which I honestly wasn't expecting after how bad — IMO — Final Fantasy III was. The fact that this story continues in Final Fantasy IV Interlude and Final Fantasy IV The After Years is tempting me to keep playing right away but I don't think I will, I want to get a PS Vita first. Totally recommended.
