Any recommendations for local-only IoT devices (Z-Wave, Zigbee, or a device I can flash with ESPHome) suitable for switching a relatively large, inductive 120V AC load?

Specifically, it's a septic pump that draws about 15A while running, but spikes up as high as 40A when it first starts. Makes me a little nervous to run it via a Sonoff POW or similar which would have been my go-to otherwise.

Helped a friend with a #ZWave issue. Was having issues with slowness and lost messages.

Looked at the network graph found in zwave-js-ui in #HomeAssistant we could see a lot of devices routing through a specific device. Once we power cycle it we had big improvements. Also did a network heal so the the routes are rebuilt just in case.

I've seen this multiple times where a specific device could be causing issues and just needs to have the power cut for a few seconds.

Sharing just in case.

Anyone who uses @homeassistant please fill out their community survey and share it with others. They are trying to better understand who uses and interacts with HA so they can better support the user base. Since they are not doing crazy invasive things that commercial platforms do, they don't have a lot of this info and have to rely on it being provided via surveys and such. home-assistant.typeform.com/co

My rules for setting up #zigbee & #Zwave meshes:

1. Put the dongle on an extension cable and place it at least 2m away from the rPi, especially if you have a plastic case
2. Start pairing with the closest mains-powered device and work your way outward
3. Only after all mains devices are in the mesh do you add battery ones. Add them where you're going to use them, not near the coordinator.
