We deserve a web browser that's part of and owned by the public commons.

To be frank, I believe we deserve, need, and could easily fund two: Firefox and Servo/Verso.

The "Open Web" does not exist without a truly open browser. Most digital sovereignty initiatives collapse without one.

Mozilla is not the organizational entity to lead this.

Kagi is Bringing Orion Web Browser to Linux

Kagi, the company behind a paid, private search engine1 of the same name, has announced it’s bringing its Webkit-based Orion web browser to Linux. In a post on BlueSky, Kagi said: “We’re thrilled to announce that development of the Orion Browser for Linux has officially started!”. Feature-parity with the macOS version is expected by next year (all going well). Orion is said to best Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox in many areas on macOS: zero-telemetry browser; built-in ad and tracking blocking; lower memory usage; faster page speeds; greater battery efficiency, support for Chrome Extensions and Firefox Add-ons. #WebBrowsers picks of the day:

➡️ @timbl - Inventor of world wide web & web browser

➡️ @servo - New web browser engine, currently experimental phase

➡️ @librewolf - Fork of Firefox, emphasis on privacy

➡️ @WebKitGTK - Official browser engine in GNOME

➡️ @torproject - Maintainers of Tor network & Tor browser

➡️ @Waterfox - Another fork of Firefox

➡️ @Vivaldi - Chromium-based browser with extra features

➡️ @mozillaofficial - Maintainers of Firefox browser & Gecko browser engine

A random reminder that @zenbrowser @Waterfox and #librewolf exist 😉

Good browsers that don't do bullshit and don't contribute to the #Google monopoly on web engines.

Addendum: I was also told about Phoenix codeberg.org/celenity/Phoenix, though I don't know whether they will be able to handle the latest shenanigans
