Hey Fedi, I could use some help with this one. I'm in over my head.

We have an #Insignia portable #WashingMachine (model: NS-TWM16WH9). The agitator has suddenly stopped, well, agitating. It makes a buzzing sound as though the motor is being engaged, but no motion. A quick internet search identified a slipped belt as a plausible culprit, but I found what appears to be the belt at the botton of the machine, and it seems perfectly fine, though I don't know if it's perhaps the one that spins the drum (which is working fine).

It doesn't throw an error code, or give any other indication that the computer is even aware there is a problem.

Any ideas what else the issue could be? At the moment, I have it sitting unplugged as I don't know if there's a big ass capacitor in there, storing a charge waiting to strike me down when I go prodding, and to be honest, I'm decidedly in over my head on this one. At least it soesn't seem to require security bits though.

I'm sure it's out of warranty and we can't afford to replace. Any suggestions would be welcome. Boosts appreciated.

The top-loading washing machine of friends up the road went out, stopping with a "lid not closed" error when it reached the spin cycle. Dismantling it, we found that the interlock was a switch formed of two small copper alloy bands that made contact when closing the lid rotated a plastic tab on the hinge upward, pushing the contacts together, and the lower band had rusted out. After much fretting, I realized that the plastic tab itself could be part of the switch.

I'm cutting and joining washing machine hoses so that I can blend hot water and cold water to go into the #WashingMachine.

(It only has one water input. And then uses electricity to heat the water. We have a tank full of solar hot water on the roof. Wasting electricity heating the water is ridiculous.)

I am using what is sold as a 12mm brass 3-way barbed joiner on eBay. #Bunnings no longer stock such stuff.

Seriously, I agree with @geerlingguy and I'll refuse to buy @internetofshit / #InternetOfShit devices.

There is no legitimate reason a #Dishwasher needs #Internet access or an #App.

  • You know what my #WashingMachine needs to start (or finish) at a certain time? Me knowing how many hours it'll be from now on till it has to start (and some 2nd grade math to add the time till the program finishes)... IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A SHITTY CLOCK INSIDE!!!

Seriously, I'm just mad at this #Enshittification!

In my Mexico City Airbnb, the communal washing machine is a bit of a high-tech wonder. After scanning a QR code, I've managed to link it to my phone. While the machine's interface remains in Spanish, I can control it in English from my phone, and even track the wash cycle progress. Handy, though it means I'll receive notifications for anyone's laundry until I unlink my account. Just popped in a small load, and curiously, it's set to run for a staggering seven hours.
