"The Wipers Times" (Trademark Films, 2014) is a movie about a satirical trench newspaper put out by British sappers in Belgium and France during the First World War. I enjoyed it on its own merits and because it was good to see this type of publication featured in film.

40 Historic Posters That Captured the Spirit of the Great War.

During World War I (1914–1918), posters became one of the most powerful tools of communication and propaganda. At a time when radio and film were still emerging, governments relied heavily on bold, visual messaging to mobilize public support, encourage enlistment, raise funds through war bonds, conserve resources, and shape public opinion.

Frank White crossed the Atlantic 18 times during WWI on a secret mission for the Bank of England. Luxury liners, submarines, maple leaves, and secret orders... A really interesting read (if we do say so ourselves...)

Frank Derry, 68, received an X-ray for a persistent cold. The X-ray revealed that he had a bullet in his lung, the legacy of a wound inflicted in May 1917. Doctors at the time treated the wound, but did not notice the one and a half inch bullet. Mr Derry’s current doctors have advised him not to have the bullet removed.

Rewinding my lifeline back to July 2021, I (once again) visited Belgium and especially the region of Flanders where my interest in Flanders Fields was born years ago.

Hill 60 was a low rise south-east of Ypres made from the soil removed in digging a cutting for the Ypres to Comines railway.

It is told to had excellent views over both Ypres and Zillebeke, and was captured by the German army during the first Battle of Ypres in November 1914. On 17 April 1915, in one of the first tunnelling operations by the British Army, six mines exploded under Hill 60, which was then quickly captured with minimal casualties.
