So no, there is no magical spell that can make #harassing and #stalking magically go away if you ignore it hard enough. It's always a complexe and messy situation where lots of personnal frustrations, revenge, feelings of injustice and entitlement are tangled up together and simply punishing the perpetrator will not make #harrassment disappear fron our societies. We will need to reassess what we consider a "normal" "reasonable" interaction, taking into account many opposing experiences.

Interesting that the new pick for fcc says he wants to "smash the censorship cartel", which could mean legal action against Bluesky if they ban transphobe harasser Jessie Singal?

"Free speech" surely doesn't mean forcing media to publish things they don't want to publish? The government saying "You may not ban this bad-actor"!

Forcing all centralized services like Bluesky to publish harassers and bullies doesn't sound very free to me!

Is properly decentralzied fediverse at an advantage here? Would government force my server to not block Singal? Could that even be done? Not by a foreign government presumably.

From the article: "Unlike the mythological creatures of early Scandinavian folklore, online trolls are real, and dealing with them is never a fun experience.

"An internet troll, as defined by Wikipedia, is:

“…a person who posts inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog), with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others’ perception.”

Just catching up with the WeDistribute.org articles about the harrassment of fediverse developers. I noticed at the time the vitriol against Ryan for adding ATProto support to BridgyFed...

... and stuck up for him.

But I had no idea what was happening to that poor guy from ContentNation;

Seriously WTF?!?

We Distribute · Tear Down Walls, and Build BridgesA libre networking project that's designed to bridge protocol spaces together announced its progress and intentions, and Mastodon users freaked out.

Multiple burns today caused by my current #mmorpg forum post; I asked for a particular #homophobic word to be removed from the text, particularly as it is used in an abusive manner, as it has been to gay men for >century.
#Devs and #Mods were entirely helpful and will remove what turns out to be a longstanding and mainly forgotten reference.
But why do only ignorant arseholes feel obliged to respond to #forum posts? Where's the support? #Solidarity? It's very important!!

This sounds like a reason to call for our MPs and other government officials to remove themselves from toxic corporate social media spaces and create government-run spaces, federated into the open social web, so that Canadians can interact with their elected officials and those elected officials can be protected from harassment!
