🔔 Upcoming talk 🔔

I’m excited to be speaking at the 2025 European Society of International Law (ESIL) Annual Conference on 12 September!

My talk is titled "The Chains of Pride: Reconstructing International Law as a Discipline of Fact and Principle".

🗓️ Date: 12 September
⏳ Time: 2 pm

The key message I want to get across is that we urgently need to enhance international law with new methods. This is not a call for interdisciplinarity as it is usually understood, but for changing how the core of the discipline is taught and practiced under a serious reading of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (VCLT). I will also show how this can be done with recently published datasets on the PCIJ, ICJ and UNSC.

The talk will be part of Agora 8 on “Interdisciplinarity and the (Re)construction of International Law”, chaired by Professor Tommaso Soave and organized by the IG on Social Sciences and International Law.

The 2025 ESIL Annual Conference will be held in Berlin (Germany) from 11 to 13 September 2025 under the general theme of “Reconstructing International Law”. The conference website is here: esil2025.de/

See you there!

Replied in thread

@kravietz I wish that a country in the #UNSC would suggest a condemnation of the attacks on Iran and Ukraine (one package for both), as then orcs will have a dilemma support Iran and condemn themselves or just abandon Iran.

Continued thread

The extent of the damage there was unclear, said #IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi. “It is clear that Fordow was also directly impacted, but the degree of damage inside the #uranium enrichment halls can’t be determined with certainty,” he said.

At the #UNSC emergency meeting Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, painted the #US strikes on #Iran #nuclear facilities as a “blatant crime” & accused Israel of drawing #Trump into the conflict.

"The world appears to be facing an unprecedented upending of the post-1945 international legal order. Israel’s government is operating with a level of impunity rarely seen before. At the same time, the Trump administration is actively undermining the global institutions designed to enforce international law"
Brian Brivati, Kingston University

Iran's letter to the UNSC

These heinous acts not only constitute a grave violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as a sovereign Member State of the United Nations, but also constitute acts of aggression and war crimes under international law and international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions.
Israel, the world’s most terrorist regime, has crossed all red lines, and the international community must not allow these crimes to go unpunished
