Beekeeper help is rolling out to the fires. Patrick Hardy of the non-profit Bee Platoon, received a call to help. Hardy is a Master Beekeeper with the #ucdavis-based California Master Beekeeper Program (CAMBP).

"There are 107 Beekeepers in the Palisades area that have been evacuated," and Patrick Hardy will coordinate assistance for beekeepers. Patrick, a disaster specialist, is launching a Bee Platoon and coordinating with fellow CAMBP members to keep apiaries safe from the fires where possible.

This is the first time a honey bee disaster response team is going to assist during a federally declared disaster."

UC Access Now has noticed that abled hegemons really like starting programs with folks with intellectual disabilities because they feel it will allow them to be paternalistic and maintain control. However, it's probably better to have anti-ableists taking these jobs than ableists.

Grad Student Job Opportunities with UCD Redwood SEED Scholars Program applications due June 30 The Redwood SEED Scholars Program is looking to hire TWO graduate students for the upcoming academic year! About Redwood SEED: Currently, 85% of adults with intellectual disabilities in California are unemployed, stuck in poverty and socially isolated without any real opportunity. The UC Davis Redwood SEED Scholars Program is a collaborative effort between UC Davis Health’s MIND Institute; the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education to change those catastrophic outcomes. The program is a residential inclusive college program for scholars with intellectual disabilities. The goal is for the scholars to develop executive functioning, communication, independent living, and employment skills so that upon graduation they can earn a living wage with paid employment and live their young adult lives according to their hopes and dreams. The scholars are supported by over 150 UC Davis undergraduate and graduate student mentors in all five areas of the program: Academics, Residential Living, Social Inclusion, Health and Wellness, and Employment. Open Paid Positions for Graduate Students: Residential Living Mentor Coordinator Employment Mentor Coordinator Each position requires 15-20 hours per week at $26 per hour. Early in the pandemic, the UC Davis Women's Resources & Research Center (WRRC) sent out an email checking in on and setting up programs for women who have children. They never checked on women who are disabled.

This A-board of theirs placed blocking most of the intersection of two paths is a very visual reminder of which women the WRRC on campus is for.

Plastic A-board advertisement for the WRRC is placed directly in the center of an intersection of paths. While wheelchair users can get around it, it's a tight squeeze. and a completely unnecessary placement that shows how little the person who placed it was thinking of people with mobility disabilities and blind/low vision folks. To the left of the A-board is a railing into the vintage building the WRRC is in. To the right are inaccessible cycle racks placed on the soil with somewhat narrow paved concree places in between that let out onto Quad Avenue. A group of people walking three abreast is several yards away, approaching the A-board.

UC's attitude towards disabled people is clear in things like this.

This July will mark 34 years since ADA became law. UC doesn't do bare minimum compliance (not full accessibility & inclusion, just legal compliance) until they decide they need to do seismic upgrades. Then "ADA compliance" is piggybacked on that.

It's the very last thing listed. Whoop-de-doo, ADA "compliant" restrooms.
