One option (to build a "custom" and "light" #openwrt build) is to go through the building process, and trimming away all you don't need (including luci) so to be properly run into your device.

Some years ago I wrote some notes regarding this exact process... So, if you have some free time, you could find it useful! Give it a look:

@monnier I bought it on the 2nd hand market 3yrs ago after doing research that it's supported by OpenWRT. That's my pattern with all of my personal routers and APs.

If devices can be flashed but not updated, I'd expect a clearly visible warning on the device page by #openwrt.

Despite running multiple OpenWRT devices for over a decade, I still don't know how much storage is necessary for normal operations and I frankly don't care as long as OpenWRT lists it as supported.

I'm old enough that 8MB sounds like "more than enough for an OS". 🤷

On one of my #OpenWRT routers I can't update all packages because of low free space on /overlay partition.

According to sources like forum.openwrt.org/t/not-enough or hamy.io/post/0016/how-to-prope or forum.openwrt.org/t/removing-l I can not even remove packages like #LuCi since they are part of the firmware.

Without any SD card option for extending the storage (it's an outdoor router openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/cpe210) I can't update OpenWRT 24.10.0 any more and I can't do anything about it.

So my 3yr old #WiFi router needs to be replaced? Really? 😲

Alter! Was denn noch? "The LAN interface must be set in a different subnet than the Wi-Fi network you are connecting to." Klar, man hat ja zuhause Subnetze rumliegen. 🙄 Quick'n'Dirty ne alte Fritzbox (danke @juela_the2nd ) über WAN anschließen und feddich. Damit man weiterhin an einem Rechner alles arbeiten kann, ein paar Ports durchbohren. #OpenWRT als WLAN Extender einrichten ist kein Spaß.
Ein Fehler und man darf wieder resetten und von vorne anfangen. openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/ne

Ok #Netzwerk #Experten, ich habe da ein Problem:
Habe auf meinem #OpenWRT 2 verschiedene Gastnetzwerke. Eines, welches über DHCP (192.168.2.x) in mein Homenetzwerk 192.168.178.x leitet. Also der Normalfall. Fritzbox ist das Gateway (192.168.178.1) Das zweite Gastnetzwerk (192.168.3.x) soll aber direkt an ein Gateway im gleichen Netz angesaftet werden. (192.168.178.43). Das ist ein VPN-Client. Mein Problem, ich kann mit Bordmitteln und zu wenig Durchblick kein dezidiertes Gateway für den Bereich (192.168.3.x) erstellen. Was ich gefunden habe, bezieht sich nur auf den Adapter. Geht sowas nicht mit Routen? Ich stehe auf dem Schlauch. Habe leider in den Jahrzehnten wenig Routingerfahrung erlangt. 🙄

For the first time ever I flashed #OpenWrt on to an old #Netgear Orbi router that would have otherwise went to the dumpster. In fact, this thing is running way smoother now than it ever was on the awful OEM software.

After installing this at my favourite café in the neighbourhood I'll just ask the owners to donate a couple of € to the project.

✅ less e-waste
✅ happy humans in the cafe
✅ free coffee for me :)

Así va mi proyecto de actualización del router WiFi en mi departamento. Tuve que "entrar a picar" para instalar un pequeño extractor noctua, muy silencioso, en la tapa de la carcasa. También hice un pequeño script para controlar la velocidad y así quede aún más silencioso.

Una placa de circuito azul con numerosos componentes electrónicos está montada en una carcasa negra. La placa tiene varios conectores, cables y chips visibles. Se observa un pequeño ventilador cuadrado de color beige conectado a la carcasa. Cuatro antenas negras están conectadas a la parte posterior de la carcasa. La carcasa está parcialmente abierta, mostrando el interior. Una parte de la carcasa superior se encuentra separada, mostrando una superficie negra lisa.
Una placa negra rectangular con un pequeño ventilador cuadrado de color beige y marrón está conectado a ella por medio de un cable. Se ve parte de un dispositivo electrónico de color azul oscuro con numerosos cables y componentes en la parte inferior derecha de la imagen. El dispositivo parece ser una tarjeta de circuito. La placa negra y el dispositivo electrónico están sobre una superficie de madera clara.
