A couple of mushrooms I saw on a hike this morning for #FungiFriday

An up the skirt shot of a white mushroom, meaning the photo is taken looking up at the mushroom's gills. This is a North American destroying angel, a highly poisonous mushroom. The pure white mushroom has a small skirt near its gills, and you can see light shining through its gills.

The first neighborhood lawn mushrooms of the year have arrived! Probably fairy ring mushrooms, 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴 (there were others nearby not pictured here).

She of the immense ears is over to visit, so off for a foggy spooky dewy walk in the woods.

very lush and green old access road in the woods covered in a foot of green growth with even higher ferns along the side and trees full of leaves. In the middle, almost invisible, is our favorites medium small dog with the giant ears, stopped and looking at me as if I’ve just asked her to scale mt everest in the teeth of winter rather than go up a slight incline in this verdant forest.

Fern covered in dew drops with a few larger water droplets. There’s a tiny fly perched on it, most likely waiting for a little sun and warmth before starting the day.

Coral fungus all over a dark chunk of log in the woods. It is light tan. There’s some patches of moss on the log and on ground below.

small medium black and brown dog (Kelpie?) standing on the edge of a vernal spring running off from a nearby beaver dam, over filled after days (weeks!) of rain. She is checking out something ahead of us or just contemplating what life choices brought her to this damp footed predicament

Another angle of the mushroom's current form. You can see that the two sides of the mushroom cap are starting to fold over and overlap like a taco. There are many fresh furls along the edge.

Given I didn't have any intention of eating the mushroom anymore (especially with all the fungus gnats in my house) I put the mycelia block in some soil by a friend's recommendation. This is still kind of unusual growth form.

June 2nd, June 3rd, June 5th, June 7th

My first mushroom the size of a golf ball. It has a wide white stipe stipe and a blue grey cap

Another angle of this mushroom starting to unfurl its gills the next day

A few days later the mushroom seems to have tripled in size. You can now easily see the gills and the top is now a brown beige

Almost like a fluffy hen or an oyster shell, the mushroom has doubled in size, and is so flared that the cap is no longer visible

the beacons are lit!

Several orange tipped swamp beacon mushrooms emerging from muddy leaf litter on the edge of a swampy bog. They look like slightly deformed matchsticks sticking up out of the ground.

A couple hikes today, to/from kid’s school function. Woods are still pretty damp, which means plenty of Red Efts and more mushroom varieties.

Red Eft in the sun trying to warm up to start its day. If they had opposable thumbs coffee might be the first thing they invent.

Elm mushroom? Although first couple choices in iNat are for oyster mushrooms, which I guess might be possible. White mushroom bunch coming out of knot in downed log, they have prominent gills and the smooth top curves under just a bit

Dead Man’s Fingers fungus, which are kind of a greenish grey with pale beige tips. They are also very small, when compared with the mosses nearby.

iNat says Trumpets, as in related to chanterelles, possibly flame trumpet? It’s a small waxy looking tan mushroom with gills, the top arched so the gills are on sides too, but not sure about trumpet shape. The cap has consistency and color of beeswax.

A large, reddish-brown, shelf-like dryad's saddle fungus growing out of a tree. The fungus has multiple undulating layers, giving it a somewhat ruffled or tiered appearance.

Last night, i suddenly noticed that there were mushrooms growing on the block I made (maybe a month ago?). instead of growing through the holes on the sides, they grew on the top, going unnoticed for me to mist them. The ones that are larger aren't salvageable, but I was instructed to make bigger holes to help with airflow for those still pinning, even chopping the top of the bag off. I seem to have gotten fungus gnats which I don't love, but at least I have experience tackling them from when I had them on my plants (neem oil on the plants, vinegar with paper tube nearby, sticky traps). hopefully I can get a better flush with improved conditions. these are NOT what they should look like.
