It was all I could do to not stop every few feet and take another mushroom photo instead of biking. Guess I'm due for a long mushroom hike.

Short hike with the kid. A lot of mushrooms and slime molds, but I only got mushroom photos this time.

𝘏𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘢, top and bottom, from the Wiley Trails:
Earth Star mushrooms are wonderful, looking like flowers with petals. This was the best I've seen this year.
Pd. Earth Star is a great name
Some recent lil mushroom sightings for #FungiFriday
It’s been a banner week for Hemlock Varnish Shelf mushrooms… getting photobombed that is! Look closely.
1. Culprit: Ink Cap mushroom tucked in on the far left side.
2. Culprits: Multiple rows of Wolf’s Milk slime mold in front.

Reading up on #mushrooms from forager websites, I recalled these huge #fungi I found on the forested slopes of Tava (“Pikes Peak”) in 2018. So I went back to find the photos.
Not sure but I think they may have been giant porcini mushrooms. If so they could have fed a large family for days. Some were the size of my shoe.
Left them alone for others to enjoy, including the trees that trade carbs with them for other nutrients. #mushtodon
@leapingwoman Hellooooo, #mushtodon!
Being the cautious type, I’m not going to eat this until someone tells me for sure which deadly mushroom we have here.
@impermanen_ the #mushtodon community is usually good for an ID.
Happy #MushroomMonday! Here are a few unidentified mushrooms from a couple weeks ago—my gut says they're all Amanita species, but I only took samples of one and I haven't given it a proper inspection under the microscope just yet.

Splitgill mushrooms (𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘻𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘦), from today's hike at Thompson Park:
My wife: “Perhaps you could expand your social circles.”
Me:
Fingers and crustacean claws coming up from the forest floor. I thought I might have discovered an orange variety (on the right) but on closer inspection it’s a maple seed.
Candlesnuff mushroom [Xylaria hypoxylon]
Late afternoon Friday dog walk and spotted what looked like the yellow of dying moss on a log deep in the woods. “Wonder what's killing it?” I thought, walking by. Curiosity won out, I scrabbled through the brush and found the truth.

A cluster of gummy worms, I mean Swamp Beacon mushrooms [Mitrula paludosa] and a solitary one.
My mum led a nature ramble walk in the lake near our house today so I went over and joined them, and took my macro lens :)
