We have started racking servers for the Game of Trees Hub.

Our first set of servers is located in #Berlin. These servers are spares we had lying around. They aren't very fast but good enough to host our web site (gothub.org), monitor service health, store backups, etc.

#git repositories will be hosted on fast root servers which we plan to rent at various hosting providers soon.

We are currently finishing our deployment scripts and some minor #gameoftrees features which we must have available at launch because, these days, running a public Git hosting site is unreasonable without shutting out relentless web crawling effectively :flan_heck:

You can support us on the Open Collective platform at opencollective.com/gothub and eventually rent Git repository space by making monthly contributions to this collective. More details will be announced once we are ready.

Hey all,

I've released -portable 0.111 which coincides with upstream's got release of the same version.

No -portable changes worth mentioning, so best to go and see the gory details in got's own changelog.

Note that a lot of the 0.111 work has gone into gotsysd, which -portable won't have.

As always, for -portable, see:

#gameoftrees #got

I've released got-portable 0.110

This release tracks got-0.110

I've cut this release mid-cycle since got upstream released 0.110, so the -portable release does contain commits which will eventually be in got-0.111

This should not be a problem since the bulk of the work is on gotsysd, which -portable won't have.

As always you can find more information here:

Apologies this release took a little longer than usual, $DAYJOB has been busy.

I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' Got (Game of Trees) to 0.109 here:

https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/27684

2/3 GitHub Continuous Integration checks passed OK! (Which is a good sign the third will pass too, it just takes SO LONG I will never understand what that one does differently).

It's up to someone else with commit access to merge it.

Been AFK and dealing with hectic life a lot recently.

Returning to the FediVerse briefly to mention that I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' GoT (Game of Trees) to 0.108 -portable here:

https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/27503

GitHub Continuous Integration checks are queued, hopefully they will run and complete without issues?

In unrelated news: I saw Itzhak Perlman live on Monday!

I'm working later today, tomorrow and Sunday and will presumably also be mostly AFK.

My apologies to any of the individuals who left notifications which I am currently ignoring. I’ll get around to that eventually, presumably!

I've just released got-portable-0.107

Usual changes from got upstream, also...

There's some specific -portable changes:

- Add additional test suite information to README.portable.
- Fix seq(1) calls in tests.

These changes don't detract from the main user-experience of using GoT, but are still valid and interesting.

As always, see: gameoftrees.org/portable.html

:flan_announcer: We are building the Game of Trees Hub, a #Git repository hosting service based on #gameoftrees and #OpenBSD, funded via an open collective.

Our Git repository server implementation can already be self-hosted on OpenBSD and Linux, but:

1) Not everyone can or wants to self-host.

2) Most people don't need yet another Git hosting service, though some people might appreciate a financially transparent and independent service that supports both public and private repositories, has no intentions of abusing user data, and is not striving for infinite growth.

3) Ever since the Game of Trees project started as a side project in 2017 it has received zero financial support. And with developers growing up and having families with children to support, unpaid work on Game of Trees has been eating its way into working hours. Which is not sustainable in the long term.

Can we make a win-win situation out of this dilemma? :flan_thumbs:

You can now support us here:
opencollective.com/gothub

For now, this is an early-bird crowd-funding effort to support the initial work on getting the service up and running. Git repository service tiers will appear once the hosting infrastructure is ready. The more initial funds we can collect the faster we will get there.

All software developed will be released under the ISC license, the same open source license terms as used by OpenBSD.
