Please suggest some names for a community-run service like Disroot, but aimed at non-technical people in #India 🙏

The service focuses on #Federated and #FreedomRespecting * services, like #Fediverse , #XMPP , #NextCloud etc

The mission is to provide an accessible alternative to proprietary corporate spyware propaganda platforms.

Names in any Indian language are preferred, but English works too.

The name should be easy to communicate, verbally, to most Indians. Avoid words that can be confused for other words…

How you get on top in business is not skill at your craft, but skill at manipulating other people to give their money or time & effort to you.

Count me in as having said, that when #federated social networks finally become the norm, all the commercial players will boast how they ALWAYS supported federation and weren’t at all trying to stop people from posting their Mastodon addresses in their Twitter bios.

Can somebody please make federated ActivityPub sites (I have an idea for the domain but not posting it duh) for #Rover and some of #NASA's other social media accounts that are going away, to show them how it's done??

X is not OG Twitter FFS and you can't view unless you have an account right?

That is not ACCESS FOR EVERYBODY!

I suppose a how to for gov wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Come on you guys!

I relate with Eren and the Survey Corps at the start of #ShingekiNoKyoujin so, so much…every damn day.

People would rather ignore problems than do anything about them. (And I’m talking about tech geeks in particular, who should damn well know fucking better.)

Complain about #OpenStreetMap rather than regularly attend mapping parties and help improve the data.

Complain about bugs and missing features in #FreeSoftware rather than fix them.

Complain about #XMPP and other #federated platforms rather than onboard people and help improve clients.

Complain about the government, but never do the bare minimum (vote) or get involved at a deeper level.

@fgntfg @tennoseremel As someone who uses XMPP as their only chat and calling medium, I beg to differ 😉

Also, people are now quitting #Telegram because of their AI bullshit. Like any #centralized platform, it was bound to abuse its users sooner or later. #Federated protocols like #XMPP are the only sensible option.

I suggest you come and rediscover XMPP. Check out some good clients and servers -

Inviting the #Fediverse to join another #Jabber / #XMPP channel I co-moderate - the #BlackLivesMatter channel! Another initiative by the wonderful @maskedwitch

You can join without a client or an account! Just visit - https://chat.queer-spark.org/#/guest?join=blm@conference.queer-spark.org

But for the best experience, I recommend using a proper client. The easiest way is to install Quicksy or Prāv, if you don’t mind using your phone number. Alternatively, install one or more of the following, and use them to register an account on conversations.im (see https://providers.xmpp.net or https://compliance.conversations.im/old for more server recommendations) -

…when you’re set up, open this link to join the channel! https://invite.joinjabber.org/#blm@conference.queer-spark.org?join

If you’re new to XMPP (e.g. coming from #WhatsApp #Matrix #IRC #Signal #Telegram #Discord etc), this guide has everything you need to get started - https://contrapunctus.codeberg.page/the-quick-and-easy-guide-to-xmpp.html

chat.queer-spark.orgXMPP webLightweight web chat client for XMPP server

In the Everlasting search for clients and servers Federated, detached from corporate underlords, connected to the masses I learned about the following client server duo

Client: Delta Chat
Servers: Chat Mail servers

One thing that jumps immediately into attention, is the fact that when you download the client, select a server, you get a QR code

When you've configured your client, you will immediately notice that you do not need to enter a password for your client. The system is passwordless by default.

You do not need to enter a multi-factor authentication code it doesn't need it.

What you need to do is be careful with, is who you share your link with. Go and play with it, see if it something for you

Me and some #FreeSoftware friends are setting up a #Fediverse + cloud server aimed at getting #Indian users away from the mass surveillance, censorship, and disinformation of proprietary platforms.

Please let us know which services are important to you by filling out this 2-minute survey, so we can prioritize accordingly and estimate the costs.
