#supercollider

I've updated my Map package for #supercollider, the aim of which is to simplify mapping controllers to SuperCollider processes and instruments. It now supports OSC devices as well (I'm using this a lot now that I am on the road, using #touchosc devices on my phone to trigger things, it's great!).

SuperCollider 3.14 release party

We want to celebrate the release of the new SuperCollider version 3.14 with the community with a 24 hour streaming event! There are 72 open 20 minute slots which can be claimed by anyone who wants to contribute a performance. The performance should be related to SuperCollider in some way, although it is not limited to musical performances but can also be talks or other kind of performances.

The event will be happening on 2025-07-26 from UTC 00:00 to UTC 23:59. For your timezone ... this relates to ...

The performances need to be transmitted as video streams which can be created via e.g. OBS - you can take a look at the setup guide. The performances are broadcasted via live.eulerroom.com, which has been kindly provided by TOPLAP - consider donating to them via OpenCollective.

@Wintermute_BBS Just saw this video and thought of you:

Therre's a new programming language for #music written by the guy who wrote #Supercollider, and it's a #FORTH!

[EDIT/UPDATE: It's apparently not precisely a FORTH because it includes lexically scoped variables, so it's FORTH-like.]

How cool is that?

I can't wait to have time to play with it. When I think about it, stack based programming would lend itself to all kinds of creative generative sound and music experimentation very well I think!

youtu.be- YouTubeEnjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Chord sequence test. 9 voices distributed over ~600 synths.

I’m experimenting with a “partial stealing” algorithm. Each new sound scans the current harmonic state for partials with which it will form a dissonant relationship, and can then request that these partials be attenuated or muted and their corrsponding synths are freed.

The sounds share a limited pool of resources/synths and sometimes twist themselves into interesting shapes to make room for other sounds. #Supercollider

@lislegaard a list of tools

  • #Ardour (best for recording, overdubbing, editing any audio, effects, diy mastering. i don't use it for sequencing and there's a part for triggering loops a la live, but never explored that part)
  • plugins: @x42 's complete suite, especially compressor, and peak limiter, CALF plugins (where i can make them work), many included ACE plugins are great, i use H/L pass filter.., and Harrison's XT plugins (NOT FLOSS)
  • #SuperCollider (sound design, livecoding, custom cue player for stage, sometimes full compositions, connecting to Processing via OSC etc...)
  • #mhwaveedit - small simple single wave editor - fades, cropping, gain, etc that lets you press ctrl+s to simply save it. very fast, a bit quirky about controls, but very stable
  • #ffmpeg - commandline powertoolbox for any conversion (extremely fast conversion to wav) - WinFF is nice GUI for ffmpeg (my SO uses it) (sometimes also flac, opus, lame CLI programs)
  • #sox - another commandline tool to manipulate audio - i often use it to make stereo files mono quickly
  • yt-dlp cli downloader of pretty much any av content online
  • mixxx - amazing dj mix program, really stable and well sounding with great choice of filters and other fx. and great support for controllers
  • notfloss: i still use Renoise a lot for quick beat-centered stuff
