Russian container ship captain charged with manslaughter.

The master of the container ship which crashed into the tanker in the North Sea has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

Vladimir Motin, 59, a Russian national, was in charge of the Solong when it collided with the Stena Immaculate, carrying jet fuel for the American military, on Monday about 19km off the East Yorkshire coast, leaving one man dead.

The man arrested over the UK ship collision is Russian, the ship's owner says.

The arrested master of the Solong, a container ship that crashed into another vessel in the North Sea, is a Russian national, its management company has confirmed.

The 59-year-old was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter on Tuesday after Monday’s fiery collision off the East Yorkshire coast, which left one man presumed dead.

In a statement, the Florida based company said: “A fire occurred as a result of the allision, & #fuel was reported released. The #StenaImmaculate crew abandoned the vessel following multiple explosions onboard. All Crowley mariners are safe & fully accounted for.”

The #JetFuel was owned by the #US govt. That’s consistent w/the vessel being part of a US govt program designed to supply the armed forces w/fuel during times of armed conflict or national emergency.
