MPL celebrates quantum sciences on the Day of Light

Experiments, quantum physics and curious minds: Together with the #DeutschesMuseumNürnberg, we celebrated the #DayOfLight and #IYQ2025 at Erlangen’s Hugenottenplatz and our institute.

On May 16, we’re teaming up with the #DeutschesMuseumNürnberg to celebrate light and quantum science.

📌 12–4 PM | Hugenottenplatz Erlangen: Join us at the science tent for live experiments and short impulse talks on quantum topics with researchers from #MPL and the Zukunftsmuseum.


📌 5–7 PM | MPL: Enjoy talks on quantum science, guided lab tours, and the film Tracing Light.

We’re celebrating the ›International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025‹!

Under the motto “Quantum2025 – 100 years of Quantum is just the beginning...”, 57 countries celebrate the impact of quantum science on our world. As part of this global initiative, we’re hosting a public event for the #DayofLight on May 16 with inspiring talks and hands-on experiments — shining a spotlight on photons and quantum phenomena.

Happy Birthday, Max Planck! 🎂🎉

Today we celebrate the birthday of #MaxPlanck (1858–1947), who laid the foundation of #QuantumPhysics. His discovery that energy is exchanged in discrete packets – quanta – revolutionized science. In 2025, we celebrate 100 years of quantum physics and its impact on technology and our understanding of the universe. It is a field that paved the way for technologies like quantum communication and quantum computing.
