I also believe that my unique style and content comes about because
a. I have some seriously adventurous history
and
b. I am completely unimpeded by any belief in "the right way to write a novel"

62 years on this planet
I was quite mediocre at this stuff when I was at school
shunned fiction for much of my life
I now firmly believe that my adventurous, misspent, first 61 years has given me all the experiences and material a novelist (like me) could ever hope for
it’s enriched me as a person, and enriches my eclectic dialogue

… me is to see how my writing has improved since 6 months ago. Taking all of the plot and the sub plots in “On the Wolf Wavelength”, reshaping it, filing the rough edges, adding a shine here and there, and polishing the whole thing.
It may not be a completed product yet, but it’s certainly looking like it.

… the story and I started writing it on 26 Jan 2025. It was completed on 9 Feb 2025 (overlapping with work on other chapters).
I have barely tinkered with it since then, except to see it move to chapter 20 of 25.
It’s been getting a substantial overhaul already today, and remains one of my favourite chapters.
This is my debut novel.

Good morning
I woke up at 5:00am (as usual) to find that there’s been refreshing rain in London overnight (and it’s just started again).
Hoping to complete my first full edit of #CopperWolf this weekend (it will take me into next week no doubt).
I started the novel on 2 Jan 2025, and “On the Wolf Wavelength” was earmarked as chapter 7 of 10.
It’s one of the most fundamental parts of …

Working away at editing my 2900-word trans-Europe train article to 1400 words, and after a few hours I'm down to 1556 words. Sounds good, but its so much harder once you've got rid of the obviously unnecessary stuff. Wish me luck!
Editors have the power to change the world.

Wrote 2,600 words over the last 2 days after a long drought. It felt goooooood.
#ScribesAndMakers 7/15 How's your creativity going? Share a paragraph or image for critique?
It's going well, I think. My current focus is editing, but Rai and I recently started re-drafting one of our stories from last winter. Progress and some fun on all sides.
Here's my most recent snippet from Planting Life:
They finished raising that section – the entire house-to-be now had walls to the height of eir knees – and Kyawtchais gratefully stood and stretched eir back. Spinning was not idle work, but a full day at the walls used more and different muscles than Kyawtchais was used to.
That, too, was like creating a family.
Together, Kyawtchais went with the gruff-one and silent-one to the outside hearth. Today, ey would stay for dinner.

AngryBard is making his debut appearance in the orchestra of Miss Fortune.
when I wrote this in Jan 2025 it was chapter 7 not 18
it's not being edited
it has been ripped apart and rebuilt completely in the past 24 hours
maybe not perfect, but I'm much happier with the new version

One of these is old and one is new. And I won’t say which way round they are.
Gut feeling please. Which version looks better to you?

I'm editing parts of my dissertation to add content and simplify the language in the hopes of widening my audience beyond #academia. I knew this would be hard, but it’s turned out to be grueling. Adding content is interesting and fun. But stripping out all the academic jargon without tying myself in knots explaining linguistic concepts is proving quite difficult. I've been marinating in jargon for years and now I'm having to sweat it all out like toxins.

Yesterday I thought Merlin was a sparrow. He's actually a goldfinch.
He's been chatting with Slender (the other demi-psychic in the novel).

I'm editing a book about video games and the author discusses game soundtracks. He mentions that some of these soundtracks come in a "standard jewel case." Now, as a Millennial, I know exactly what this means. But my job is to consider the reader.
So I've edited this to "standard CD jewel case." But reader, let me tell you, I felt practically ancient when I added a note explaining that younger readers may not be familiar with CD cases.
So... my big news is that I've signed a contract with a publisher for "The Cloak and Its Wizard," the urban fantasy from the cloak's PoV.
A wrote a bit about that (and what else I'm up to) on the ol' blog thing: https://rznicolet.com/2025/07/05/traditional-publishing-checkpoint-2-publisher/
8 chapters of "Otherworld" pre-edited.
It's going well.
Singing… it was a private thing. A family's songs were shared only with their most trusted friends and, sometimes, extended family.
They were family.
In time they would make new songs, but for now, it was right that they share the songs of their childhoods.
When it was eir turn, Kolchais shared one of eir good memories from eir childhood – a song of wind and running eir Baba had taught em while they worked the family garden together.

About 3,000 words edited on Planting Life in a Dying City, almost done with Kolchais' section of the story.
They are learning how to build a family together!
