Our new investigation in WIRED today shows the danger of Google's huge RTB security problem.
We easily obtained Google RTB segment data about US national security personnel from a data broker -- despite posing as a foreign company that fetes Russian troops our fake website!

WIRED · Google Ad-Tech Users Can Target National Security ‘Decision Makers’ and People With Chronic DiseasesBy Dell Cameron

As @dell.bsky.social and @dmehro write, the thousands of segments included people at companies registered with the State Department to manufacture missiles and space launch vehicles.

Google has known that its RTB system leaks everybody's data like a sieve since at least as early as 2014. Google CEO Pichai is implicated directly.

here are many examples of shell RTB companies hoovering up RTB data for intel. Google's RTB data free-for-all is a goldmine for hostile intelligence services.

@johnnyryan For heavens sake, reading this conversation you have to shudder. WHY does ANYBODY use Google to browse any more? WHY does everyone not block every non-essential cookie on any browser, including so called “legitimate interest“, which is never legitimate?

@johnnyryan that's because the #USA has zero #DataProtection #laws in place.

  • Even #COPPA is just a legal figleaf...
