We ask the @EUCommission to halt an agreement negotiated between #Europol and #Egypt that could legitimise illegal Egyptian police practices and open the door to a harmful sharing of personal data.
The EU is negotiating a working agreement between Europol and Egypt in the field of law enforcement. This happens despite flagrant human rights violations and political repression by Egyptian authorities.

Hossam Baghat, executive director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights – which co-signed the open letter – was arrested last Thursday on charges of “terrorism” and “broadcasting false statements”. Baghat has since been released on bail.
Our concerns that the EU could enable further political repressions if it signs #Europol-#Egypt cooperation agreements are real. We stand in solidarity with our partners in Egypt fighting for human rights.
