Wow, the “temporary” security control between 🇭🇰&🇲🇴is straight out of #XCom. Run by grumpy mainland-Chinese immigration in a dystopian temporary compound halfway across the bridge. #Macao’s 25th anniversary of the “return to the motherland “ is coming up, and authorities seem afraid. CTM SIM-card vending machine was also in-op for the occasion. Let’s see if I can find one in the city tomorrow.

When you start getting old, sometimes your memories create weird interference patterns in your vision of current realities. History doesn't repeat, they say, but it sure does echo.

Now that the birdsite has changed all its URLs over to URLs on the x.com domain, I can't see one of those links without thinking of X-COM: UFO DEFENSE, the classic 1994 MicroProse game that ate so VERY many hours of my younger life:

QUEEN: We encountered a second patrol closer to the objective. Another ADVENT grunt and one of those weird new sectoids. They fell back to cover and prepared to engage.

MANLEY: I grenaded that, too. Screw you and screw your cover, alien assclowns! Scragged the ADVENT toady and left the bug naked.

BOOK: SIGINT indicated ADVENT was in the process of shutting down the vulnerable node. We didn't have much time.

THEODORA: We encountered some ADVENT grunts on patrol—

MANLEY: [ LAUGHTER ] Yeah! I greased them both with my grenade launcher!

RK JENNIFER QUEEN: A local resistance cell said an ADVENT computer system had some kind of bug that made it vulnerable—

SQ ALEXIS BOOK: It was a buffer over-read exploit caused by an unplanned interaction between the alien network's transport protocol, and the human hardware on which most of the physical layer runs. Because the two don't work together perfectly, you can use a packet with a header containing a very high prime number, which in turn—

QUEEN: I don't know what any of that means.

BOOK: The aliens think we're dumb monkeys who can't count.

MAJ WILL HADDOCK: Can we get back to the mission, please?

SQ ALLISON THEODORA: We inserted to a rooftop near the target. Good sniping spot.

SQ FERRET MANLEY: They had no idea we were coming! [ LAUGHTER ]
