Beartooth Highway from the winter closure 2300m winds it's way up to the 3200m + Plateau on the SE wall of Rock Creek Canyon in 5 switchbacks. We just hiked up to #3 and turned round for 14K. Getting deep on the road. But not skiable, some real thin areas, better to hike. Probably about 25cm fell in there from last system, less than town. Sheltered some from N-NE flow. -3C not windy at the start, one of the most beautiful days all winter 👍#climate #hiking #dogs #winter #mountains #montana

not quite the same viewpoints up Rock Crk. Canyon, but good enough. Much better snowpacks this year now, vs. exactly one year ago.

we actually did lose some the week before the latest snow, thank goodness we did. 40cm our place easy, with that rain before, really good moisture 👍

These gulches, or "kuru" in Finnish, are potential death traps in the winter. Snow gets packed into thick and heavy patches on the sides, and when a skier enters, they might collapse on top of them. I always avoid these like the plague, though they are very pretty to watch. I once met two ski tourers who claimed that they always ski through these and their granny taught them to do so. In my opinion, it's just a disaster waiting to happen.

Guten Tag, der April macht bekanntlich, was er will... Hier am Eingang zum Saas- und Mattertal im Wallis schneit es seit gestern Abend unaufhörlich. Wir haben bald einen Meter Neuschnee. Rundherum brechen die Bäume zusammen, man hört Lawinen und die ganzen Täler sind ohne Strom.

I woke up back in winter this morning. We got around 30cm over night and it will snow until noon. It's always a special atmosphere when everything is covered freshly with snow. But I'm a bit worried as the trees already started having leaves and the snow is very wet and heavy.
