Alan McConchie<p>Fascinating <a href="https://subdued.social/tags/UKelection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKelection</span></a> analysis from the <a href="https://subdued.social/tags/ElectoralReform" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ElectoralReform</span></a> Society:</p><p>Even with so much tactical voting (where voters don't pick their true preference, and instead are guessing what other voters are going to do based on imperfect polling and trying to game the system in a dismal electoral Prisoner's Dilemma) we still see that most MPs were elected with a minority of the vote. Most voters voted for candidates that did not win.</p><p>The <a href="https://subdued.social/tags/FirstPastThePost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FirstPastThePost</span></a> system needs to go. <a href="https://subdued.social/tags/ProportionalRepresentation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProportionalRepresentation</span></a></p>

Ren Zelen<p>It seems like multiple Reform Party candidates were "phantoms".<br>Up to 20% had an AI photo, or no photo at all, didn't appear at hustings, had no social media – or address –except party HQ.<br>Reckon Labour should add this to list of things to "investigate". <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/electionfraud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electionfraud</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/ukelection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ukelection</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/ReformUK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReformUK</span></a></p>
Frank’s Ting<p>The Gallagher Index went from a reasonable 11.8 at the last <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/UKElection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKElection</span></a> to a ridiculously bad 23.7 after this <a href="https://theblower.au/tags/GeneralElection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GeneralElection</span></a>. Labour's overperformance of 30% is phenomenal and Reforms’ underperformance of -13.5 even worse than the Lib Dems -9.9 last time around. What an terrible, unrepresentative voting system they have.</p>

Charlie McHenry<p>Fifty shades of beige… this humorous video pretty much sums up my reaction, that of a highly engaged and interested Yank, to the <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/UKElection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKElection</span></a> - but I must say, I am most gratified to see Truss, Mordant and Rees-Mogg gone, whilst Jeremy Corbyn prevails as an independent. One thing is for certain, the next few weeks and months will be interesting viewing for keen observers. <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/UKElection2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKElection2024</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/UKPolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKPolitics</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/Conservatives" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Conservatives</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/ConservativesFearChange" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ConservativesFearChange</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://youtube.com/watch?v=ghr2M8mh8MA&amp;si=eqbyiTwtVI5-_8LN" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=ghr2M8mh8M</span><span class="invisible">A&amp;si=eqbyiTwtVI5-_8LN</span></a></p>
robin<p><a href="https://union.place/tags/Labour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Labour</span></a>'s huge majority in <a href="https://union.place/tags/parliament" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>parliament</span></a> had been long predicted. In the end it was a bit less than they'd hoped, and the mere 33% it represents is frankly embarrassing.</p><p>But there were some other <a href="https://union.place/tags/Leftist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Leftist</span></a> details of the <a href="https://union.place/tags/UKElection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKElection</span></a> I was particularly focused on: </p><p>1. Would <a href="https://union.place/tags/JeremyCorbyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JeremyCorbyn</span></a> win as an independent in <a href="https://union.place/tags/IslingtonNorth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IslingtonNorth</span></a> after being deselected as a Labour MP? You know Labour threw everything they could at beating him. </p><p>Corbyn won with 49.2% of the votes, to Labour's 34.4%</p><p>1/?</p>
Leon Cowle<p>The UK is right to celebrate a brutal rebuke of the Tories (Conservatives). It was high time. 👏🎉</p><p>Labour, though, should temper their victory lap. Even with such a CON rebuke, LAB only gained 2% of the vote share (since last election). That is NOT a big endorsement of LAB. 35% vote share is NOT widespread support. Some Tories stayed home. Some voted Reform. There was no big swing to LAB!</p><p>PS The FPTP voting system is stupid (put aside that it benefited my team this time)</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/ukpolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ukpolitics</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/UKElection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKElection</span></a></p>
