I don't buy a lot of fancy name brand tools, because mostly they're not worth the exaggerated prices, but I have a few.

This Makita hammer drill is fine*, but what they really got right is the box.

Parkside tools come in moulded plastic cases that fit exactly what was in the box and nothing else and only if you put the cable the way it was when you first opened it.

The Makita case allows you to roll the cable aorund the handles as everyone does and still fit in the box, plus compartments for the accessories you will accumulate.

I've found myself cutting away plastic from Parkside boxes to make space for that...

* Apart from the notoriously crappy Makita plastic chuck you see in there, next to a superior, cheaper metal one from China.

“Stop fighting your tools. Start building faster!”

Umm… I’m not fighting my tools?

My tools are simple and fit for purpose. I rather enjoy using them. Their elegance gives me little bursts of joy, every day.

And I’m building at a sustainable rate, thank you. Why would I want to build faster? Am I being chased by a bear?
