I'm on a #Thinkpad T14 running #Debian 12, and it doesn't recognize the wifi card. This happens when Thinkpads have a #Realtek WAN, and sadly, technicians have told me it is soldered on. However, two things
a) The Bluetooth works fine (on the same board, right?)
b) "lsusb" shows me this:

I'm confused by all this. Help would be appreciated.

Ernüchternd: ich habe gerade 1,5 Stunden lang versucht, wie ich "schnell" mal eine aktuelle #Linux Distribution per #LiveUSB ausprobieren kann.
Fazit: 3x mit #Unetbootin für #ubuntu und #fedora einen USB-Stick formatiert. Thinkpad bootet nicht vom Stick sondern fällt immer wieder ins #Windows rein. Auch mit F12 und dem ausgewählten USB-Stick gings nicht. Liegt bestimmt am #Thinkpad. Aber was muss ich anders machen?
Das ging vor 10-12 Jahren out of the box.
Das Touchpad meines #ThinkPad ist unter #LinuxMint irgendwie träge und „laggy“. Unter Windows aber normal.
Einfach Zeigergeschwindigkeit ändern hat nix gebracht, ebenso die Installation des synaptics Treibers.
Hat jemand ne Idee? #linux

Important: use http://192.168.8.1 to set SIM pin manually after the device has been shown to be recognised and modeswitched using the checks:
lsusb
nmcli
ls /dev/cdc-wdm*
lsmod | grep cdc
and importantly:
usb_modeswitch --version
returns a good output message

Extremely satisfied with my ThinkPad T480 running on FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE!
I got the machine used and upgraded it:
- 32 GB of memory
- 1 TB SATA SSD
- Innolux N140HCG-GQ2 FHD LCD panel
- New Lenovo backlight keyboard (US-ANSI)
- Glass Trackpad from X1 Carbon
- Intel AX210 WiFi module (802.11ax)
- Dual batteries
Literally everything in that laptop, that I need does work on FreeBSD 14.3:
- WiFi with 5Ghz and proper speeds
- Sleep/Resume
- Integrated Webcam
- Power management
- Trackpad
- Thunderbolt Docking (including Audio and HDMI)
It's the perfect development and productvity machine

Uns ist eine kleine Herde 370er der Gattung Yoga aus der Familie der #ThinkPadoidea zugelaufen. Der alte Besitzer hat die Kleinen leider verstoßen, da sie sich nicht mit #Windows11 vertrugen und nicht mit ihm spielen wollten. Wir haben uns natürlich gleich sehr liebevoll um die Kleinen gekümmert und sie ordentlich gereinigt und ihnen allen Power-SSD-Riegel zum Abendbrot gegeben. Ich habe mir für ca 3 Euro bei #AliExpress anklebbare Aufstellfüße für mein Notebook geholt, damit es bei rechenintensiven Dingen besser an Frischluft kommt statt den Tisch aufzuheizen.
Leider hatte ich nicht bedacht, wie ungünstig bei meinem #ThinkPad #T14s das Lüftergitter liegt, sonst hätte ich ein kompakteres Modell der Füßchen genommen (gibt da sehr viele verschiedene, auch unterschiedliche Materialien - das hier sind sehr massive aus Metall, es gibt das aber nochmal deutlich kleinere und auch aus Kunststoff).
Das mittige Aufkleben ist aber noch hinreichend stabil, man muss sich schon echt doof auf eine Seitenkante stützen, damit es kippt. Bei normaler Nutzung ist es superstabil, kein Wackeln o.ä.
Kann ich also nur weiterempfehlen :)
