Une du quotidien islandais Morgunblaðið daté du jeudi 24 avril qui titre "Gleðilegt sumar !" (Joyeux été ou équivalent) avec une photo de deux personnes à contre-jour non loin d'un phare.

An intensely green forest of tall trees surround a small clearing lushly carpeted with ferns. The late afternoon sun is low above the far horizon, shining through the leafy branches of the trees and casting long shadows across the ferns. Through the canopy there are glimpses of a soft blue sky.

Quiet beaver pond in Todd Hollow, Plymouth, Connecticut. July 19, 2024, 1:54 PM.

A deep blue, unusually haze-free summer sky with fleecy white clouds. Standing in the shade beside the trunk of a maple tree on the shore of a large pond. A patch of mostly open water nearby with clumps of tall water grasses mirrors the sky on its lightly rippled surface. Most of the pond beyond hash a dense covering of lily pads. The pond merges with the tall grasses of a marsh to our left. A wooded ridge rises above the far shore.

We are standing beside a large lake. The sun has recently set above the wooded far shore. The sky is a deep twilight blue streaked with clouds: orange and gold tinted along the horizon and bright pink above, mirrored on the lake below. We are standing beside a patch of tall lush green grass along the near shore. It is speckled with red violet wildflowers. There is a darker green bush beyond, right on the shoreline.

I feel it in the air the summer's out of reach sunset (h/t Mike Campbell and Don Henley). New Britain Reservoir, Southington, Connecticut. August 31, 2020, 7:03 PM.

A deepening blue evening sky looking north with a band of clouds and haze near the horizon. The offscreen setting sun is painting those clouds pale gold and pale yellow. We are on a rocky peninsula covered with leafy shrubs and grass on top looking across a small cove formed by this and a similar rocky peninsula a short distance down the lakeshore. Beyond that are several other small bays and the forested north shore of the lake. To our right is part of the eastern shore, similarly wooded. A late summer breeze is softly rippling the lake.

Europe goes into daylight saving time despite controversy.

Most Europeans woke up on Sunday clocks that jumped forward by one hour.

The twice-annual time change has long been contentious and was even voted against in an EU open consultation back in 2018.

Why does everybody say the time change means we get an hour less sleep (or an hour more when going back to winter time)? That's not how sleep works. You get docked an hour of the day, even though the change is done in the night. Bodies will sleep X hours unless disturbed by the alarm clock (so people on a rigid schedule and weekend duty *will* get an hour less sleep, that's true).

Detectives wearing grass skirts arrested a rock singer. The detectives, who were also carrying mouth organs, called on American rock singer and band leader Jimmy “Baby Face” Lewis. They were there for an interview, but instead charged Lewis with peddling drugs to other entertainers. A list of 100 customers, including prominent show people from Hollywood, was found.
