A deep robin's egg blue sky. Standing beside a slow-moving stream that widens into a tiny pond as it passes through a marsh and drains into a small lake. The marsh is filled with dozens of skunk cabbage plants, sporting the bright emerald green leaves of early spring. Leafy sprouts and new spring grass emerging from the recently dormant forest floor are clad in similar shades of green. The marsh and pond are surrounded by a stately forest of budding hardwood trees and deep green pines.

Happy May Day! This is hand-pulled lino block print of the Jack-in-the-Green (or Jack o’ the Green) an English folk tradition for May Day. Wearing a conical or pyramidal wicker or wooden frame covered in foliage so as to conceal the wearer, the Jack-in-the-Green leads a May Day procession, dancing often with musicians and other figures. 1/2

Streng grafisch-horizontal gestaltetes Bild mit tiefem Horizont im unteren Bildsechstel, im Vordergrund rahmt unten und oben Grünland einen frisch bearbeiteten Acker ein, dessen nackte Erde im Licht der tief stehenden Abendsonne rotbraun leuchtet und dessen Strukturen im Streiflicht klar hervortreten. Am Horizont stehen ein paar kleine, etwas verloren wirkende Bäumchen im ersten Frühlingsgrün unter blassblauem Himmel, an dem sich ganz zart ein rosa Schimmer der Abenddämmerung erahnen lässt.

Ähnlich gestaltet wie das erste Foto dieser Reihe, der Horizont ist deutlich höher knapp unterhalb der Bildmitte angeordnet, das untere Bilddrittel nimmt im Vordergrund das frische Grün eines jungen Getreidefeldes ein, darüber ein Streifen Ostsee unter blassblauem, leicht bewölkten Himmel. Zentral und klein am Horizont ist die Dachkonstruktion einer hölzernen Schutzhütte zu sehen, am rechten Bildrand die noch kahlen Zweige eines Strauches - das war's an Bildelementen.

Frisch bearbeiteter, gefurchter Acker, dessen nackte Erde im Licht der tief stehenden Abendsonne rotbraun leuchtet und dessen Strukturen im Streiflicht klar hervortreten. Am tief im unteren Bildviertel angeordneten Horizont stehen zentral ein paar kleine, etwas verloren wirkende Bäumchen im ersten Frühlingsgrün unter blassblauem Himmel, an dem sich ganz zart ein rosa Schimmer der Abenddämmerung erahnen lässt.

Streng dreigeteiltes Bild; das untere Bilddrittel teilen sich kurz vor Sonnenuntergang ein in dunklem, mattem Grün und Braun daliegender Acker mit den Silhouetten einzelner Sträucher am Horizont und darüber die im Gegenlicht silbrig glänzende Ostsee, darüber ein bleigrauer, konturloser Himmel.

Während der Pflaumenbaum schon wieder fast verblüht (oder wegen der Nachtfröste verfroren) ist, steht die kleine Birne, die partout nicht wachsen möchte, in voller Blüte. Jedes Jahr wieder wunderschön.
