An unreleased #Australian government report on the #economic & #environmental risks posed by the #climatecrisis is “#intense & #scary”, & confronting even for those who work in the area.

The delayed report – the #nationalclimateriskassessment – includes #modelling of future climate #damage, estimates of the number of people who could be #killed by #worsening #heatwaves & a mapping tool that forecasts #flooding risk in suburbs across the continent. #auspol #Australia

AI machines have been created that can improve themselves (a Gödel Machine). Conceptually this is AI programs that can create new versions of itself and improve itself, a bit like evolution.
Implications are: AI logic is hard to understand, but the code will become much harder to understand. The AI may eventually create true AI that becomes self-aware.
Any constraint on the AI can be broken as the AI modifies itself.

“We should not have to prove our citizenship, […] We are the original people in this country, but we’re in a #scary time right now, and I don’t want any #American #Indian to get lost in the #system. [ICE] ‘lost’ children the last time they did this. They lost little brown children that will never be reunited with their parents. And that is horrible. […]”

Let me preface this by saying you lot know how I feel by now about the current and awful political climate and what's going on with the state of big social media sites. I've ranted enough on here in regards to Meta.

In light of everything that's going on and how utterly upset I've been, I don't plan on ever posting on my podcast's Instagram account ever again. I think I'll leave it there for listeners to go back and see stuff from the past, of course, but will NOT be posting anything new on there. Basically, f*ck it. I'm done. So completely done. It just occurred to me that I don't need to be riddled with anxiety.

I've hated Meta for a long time but I was terrified of what would happen if I didn't promote on there. I suddenly don't care anymore. I made up my mind this morning. My first point, my friends are here, and secondly, my 8-15k listeners are going to listen no matter where I might be posting things to accompany episodes. Besides, I have a blog for my show. So, screw it. I don't care. I refuse to be on there anymore.

This is just a heads up for the future of #PANDASDEN. I mostly post about episodes on here, anyway. All that I'm going to have moving forward will be post on here and on my blog as well. I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm happier now that I've made up my mind.

Thanks for reading.

Someone in my FB feed has bird flu, along with her daughter. They have no idea where they contracted it. They had the vaccine but they still got it.

We are so fucked. We refuse to do any kind of contact tracing and one-third of our nation (U!S!A! U!S!A!) shrieks like a toddler with full-body rash and automatic weapons if you mention masking, quarantine, or even social distancing. State and local governments have given up on even collecting data to track the pandemic and many of them seem scared (see toddlers, above) of even acknowledging any risk to the population.

This will not be good.

People will get into serous trouble from this data. You don't want:
- A criminal saying to a policeman: I know to which school you children go.
- The inhabitants of a small Christian rural village to know that that one widdower drives weekly 200km to visit a sex club.
- An abusive husband to know his wife visits a therapist.
- A foreign secret service to know who works with military technology and has a secret life.

Micro-Climate Blog #16! which speaks to traditions of Halloween-time that recognize thinning of the separation between worlds. And so it also seems fitting to share recent research on thinning of glaciers in west Antarctica, which brings enough scary to be getting on with-
