Postdoc Viviana Villafañe adjusts a complex experimental setup at the Walter Schottky Institute. Her research uses color centers in diamonds—atomic-scale defects with quantum properties—to explore how light, sound, and electron spin interact for future quantum technologies.

Viviana Villafañe holds a tiny diamond chip containing artificial defects called color centers. These sites can emit single photons or have their quantum spin manipulated, making them powerful tools in the quest for a secure and fast quantum internet.
