Simon Harris can't bear the thought of adding four minutes (maximum) to people's car journeys for the sake of frequent and reliable public transport.

Apparently this is madness.

The issue at stake is the closure of a minor access road from the N11 to Bray. There are other access roads less than 1km away to the north and south.

Sydney Rd Accessible Tram Stops campaign is getting ready for another rally on the 28th June 2025.

The Victorian Government is in breach of the commonwealth Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport, which required all states and territories to make their public transport infrastructure fully accessible by the end of 2022.

They are delaying on this for no reason. They've had 13yrs notice.

My latest piece for the Irish Examiner examines the implications of the recent Congestion Cost report on the future of transport planning for Cork city.

If the report has taught us anything it is that we need a lot more ambition and a greater sense of urgency in the delivery of public transport and active travel infrastructure. We need to plan for the future we want, not just mitigate against the future we might have.

Irish Examiner · Is more congestion in Cork City an inevitability?By Ciarán Ferrie

San Francisco greeted me with this masterpiece - a ticket vending machine. It looks about thirty years old, at least: over the years it has "acquired" new technologies, physical patches, crutches, and a whole collection of instructions. As a result, I, a person with a technical background, stood there for about fifteen minutes and still couldn't figure out how it works on my own.

In the end, a nice Spanish-speaking guy saved me, who seems to know the sequence of clicks by heart - he selected the right ticket for me and helped pay the required amount. Both in terms of physical interface and UI/UX - this machine is absolutely non-intuitive. For example, to add $3, you need to press the corresponding button, and to add $9 - press the same button three times in a row. Logic!

Let's consider this machine just a museum exhibit. Fortunately, in the city center, I already saw new, modern machines - intuitive, without unnecessary quests.
