Una foto a colori, in formato verticale, che ritrae un grande stagno la cui superficie è in parte ricoperta di fiocchi bianchi e soffici di pioppo, e riflette il cielo e le piante circostanti. In primo piano, davanti allo stagno, a mo' di lembo di sipario, sulla destra, ci sono i tanti rami frondosi e carichi di foglie verdi di una pianta, da cui pendono a grappoli di rami più sottili le foglie di un rampicante che la avvolge. Dall'altra parte dello stagno, sullo sfondo, si intravede il tronco nero, in controluce davanti al cielo, di un albero morto, spezzato dal vento, con due dei suoi lunghi rami spezzati appoggiati in diagonale tra la terra e una sua biforcazione.

A photograph taken from the surface of a garden pond, pointing horizontally.

This is in the shallows of the pond, so is a surface of smooth pebbles, some about two inches below the surface and some just breaking through. There's a light covering of pondweed.

The subject of the photo is a small sitting-Buddha statue, placed in the pond. It is facing the camera and the light and shadows make it appear to be smiling. Behind it, in the background, is a curved log ducking into the water. This has been placed so that damselfly will breed, and appears to be working well.

It's a sunny day, and the light is reflecting off the stones. It's also showing up a few tadpoles swimming amongst the pebbles.

Yesterday afternoon I found an egg mass in the pond that looked a bit greener, older than the others. Sticking phone in the water for a closeup it looks different from the mass just a few inches away. Tadpoles today?

A mass of frog (or toad?) eggs in with old reeds and air bubbles. Instead of perfectly round, dark inner eggs these are more oblong, perhaps even tadpole shaped. With another warm day expected today perhaps they’ll hatch?

A slightly newer (4-5 days) mass of eggs that are quite clear (no algae tint) and symmetrical. There’s air bubbles mixed in with the dark, round eggs

Picknicking at our local pond. There’s a few new native birds visiting now, & a moment ago, 2 good sized turtles were sunning themselves on a log. I was too slow to get a pic.

I just spent the past 3.5 hours walking around in the woods at night with a few students for an amphibian night lab. Full moon, wood frogs and barred owls calling through the night, spotted salamanders swimming around. (they requested a weekend option, and it was only supposed to be 2 hours but they wanted to keep exploring more). the night and their excitement of seeing wildlife lifts my mood.

A deep blue, unusually haze-free summer sky with fleecy white clouds. Standing in the shade beside the trunk of a maple tree on the shore of a large pond. A patch of mostly open water nearby with clumps of tall water grasses mirrors the sky on its lightly rippled surface. Most of the pond beyond hash a dense covering of lily pads. The pond merges with the tall grasses of a marsh to our left. A wooded ridge rises above the far shore.

A community gardening group is hoping to have many ponds in the area, to foster wildlife. At the pond class we were shocked to hear that *all water plants* (we're using native species) are imported - no one produces lovely water plants like Iris - native yellow flag iris, Feileastram; Nymphaea alba, native white water lily, bacán bán; Filipendula ulmaria, the scented meadowsweet, Airgead luachra, Persicaria amphibia, amphibious bistort, Glúineach uisce…
