Looks like Parramatta City Council is going to pick up the tab for the Riverside Theatre redevelopment, because Albanese is unwilling to stump up $50 million.
So much for Labor caring about the arts, or Western Sydney!
https://www.aussietheatre.com.au/news/parramatta-locks-in-funds-for-276-million-riverside-theatres-overhaul/
"City of Parramatta councillors have unanimously voted to underwrite the remaining $93 million funding shortfall for the long-awaited Riverside Theatres redevelopment, clearing the way for Western Sydney’s flagship arts venue to become a Broadway-ready destination.
"The $276 million project will more than double capacity to 2,780 seats and deliver:
* a new 1,500-seat lyric theatre designed for major West End and Broadway tours
* a refurbished 760-seat Riverside Playhouse
* a 420-seat black-box drama theatre
* an 80-seat digital studio and cinema
* landscaped public plazas along the Parramatta River
"Council has already committed $140 million, partly funded by the sale of the adjoining Riverside carpark, while the NSW Government has pledged $40 million. The extra $93 million will be raised through developer contributions, property reserves, third-party grants and philanthropic donations, ensuring the redevelopment proceeds even if a $50 million federal arts grant application is unsuccessful."

"Figures obtained under a freedom-of-information request reveal the extent of a staffing crisis at one of the largest and most powerful councils in Sydney.

Great that Premier Minns wants to give Western Sydney a less safe and reliable Metro, deliberately built to lower standards than the wealthy suburbs Metro, and without the art. Class warfare from the party of the workers. #nswpol
Potentially of interest to anyone in Western Sydney who's renting.

NSW's cheap and nasty philistine of a Premier Chris Minns is at it again.
Now he wants to end state government funding of local art galleries, including the likes of MAMA in Albury–Wodonga.
"Three out of four regional public art galleries in New South Wales are facing a funding crisis after the state government pulled its financial support as a result of a massive restructure of its cultural funding arm, Create NSW.
"Wagga Wagga, Orange, Armidale, Broken Hill and Tamworth are among 18 regional centres in NSW with major public art galleries that will no longer receive four-year funding from the state government, worth between about $70,000 and $200,000 a year.
"The decision has prompted two of the state’s peak arts bodies to call on the government to conduct an urgent review, warning in a letter to NSW arts minister John Graham in June that the defunding would 'devastate our region’s creative life' and significantly weaken cultural tourism, which sees about 3.5 million people visiting regional galleries and museums each year."
