Anthony Bosio<p>I ended up pulling the trigger on an ASUS A16 (2023). With 32GB/1TB, an 8GB GPU and the right price, I think this will serve me well. 🤞</p><p>I wiped Windows immediately and installed NixOS with Gnome. </p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hardware</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Laptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Laptops</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/HomeLab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeLab</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SelfHosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHosting</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a></p>
Krutonium://<p>I saw a NixOS project to generate <code>.desktop</code> files when given a package name, that didn't install the package but instead used <code>nix run</code> essentially to pull it in when needed instead of having it always installed. Does anyone have the link?</p><p>Attached is my own non-satisfactory version.</p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a></p>
feliks<p>&gt; <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a> is a terrible solution rather than a reproducible one. Adding a layer of complexity to simple text files that can be easily edited and having thousands of links that are links to other links is just stupid. Filling up disk space like crazy and using more machine resources on trivial tasks is not an elegant solution. Editing configuration.nix or any other module, reading all the idiotic variable definitions that were invented to change a simple variable in a text file, is boring.</p><p>lol</p>

OH: "$out will deliberately contain no kernel images so that there is no way for someone's naive U-Boot jank integration crap to brick their mission-critical Sheevaplug powering 5 hospitals"

#CopterPortrait Meet Flik¹, the #multicopter we developed our first #PARASITE payload for. It's a commercial dji Mavic 3E drone typically used for photography. Here, Flik is measuring for the #TeamX campaign in #Austria, which will eventually improve #mountainWeather forecasts.

🌡️ Our PARASITE system (running ❄️ #NixOS) has several ventilated meteorological sensors on board for temperature and relative humidity.

💨 From all the data we get from copter and sensors we derive a fast 3D wind measurement. So yes: We can now measure #turbulence with a copter, without the need for an actual anemometer: The copter is our anemometer!

✅ Comparisons in #Falkenberg with a @DeutscherWetterdienst tower shows that the data quality is comparable to ultrasonic anemometers - the current gold standard of operational turbulence measurements.
