What I do like: I love the idea of travelling this far north on these long old-fashioned trains. The wooden elements in the compartment create a cosy atmosphere. You can lock your compartment from the outside, which is great for a visit to the bistro. Let's go further north! The ferries to Finland don't run on Christmas, the night trains are almost fully booked. However, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SJ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SJ</a> 's <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Natt%C3%A5g" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Nattåg</a> 96 to Luleå still had some free sleeping compartments a couple of days ago. 1st class is 25% cheaper than 2nd class for this train, so it's an easy choice for us. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WrigglingIntoWinter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WrigglingIntoWinter</a>

The early departure had several advantages: this time the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/diningCar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#diningCar</a> (Bistro) was opened 🥳 And because the train arrives at 5am you can stay until 7, which means almost 2 hours without any rumble for sleeping and showering. Then you stroll to the Scandic Continental, show your <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/SJ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SJ</a> reservation (1st class) and get a huge breakfast with a nice view & barely people 😃<a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/interrail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#interrail</a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/zug" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#zug</a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/nachtzug" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#nachtzug</a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/natt%C3%A5g" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#nattåg</a>

Checked in by two gentlemen from <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/SJ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SJ</a> at the platform I found my private cabin with shower and toilet. I opted for the upper berth to use the lower one as seats. You have to fold it down yourself (instructions on the wall), click in the net and grab a pillow.
