Stargazers, look up! The #EtaAquarids, a #meteor shower that originates from #Halley's Comet, has been active since April 20. But stargazers can witness maximum activity of the Eta Aquarids Monday night into early Tuesday morning (May 5-6). https://www.space.com/stargazing/meteor-showers/the-eta-aquarid-meteor-shower-peaks-tonight-heres-how-to-see-fragments-of-halleys-comet-burn-up-in-the-atmosphere

An Almost Everything Sky
A vibrant sky captured in New Zealand features the Milky Way, a #meteor, zodiacal light, aurora, and a photographer's light trail. This composite image is made from 10 exposures; the astrophotographer is also hidden within the scene.

Annual Lyrid meteor shower peaks overnight Monday for those in the Northern Hemisphere.
NBC News reports: "The meteor shower began on April 16, but will reach its peak Monday night and into the early-morning hours of Tuesday."
I just saw the most amazing thing while driving home from an rfs meeting and I feel like I need to share it as a timeline cleanser
this was captured by my car's dashcam but it was amazing in person, you could see the trail as the body broke up. I am so hyped, such amazing timing
Visit of the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde on board RV METEOR
The President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, His Excellency José Maria Pereira Neves, visited the research team of the #M209 expedition last weekend. He boarded the German research vessel #METEOR in the “Baía do Inferno” off the coast of the Cabo Verdean island Santiago.

An Unusual Hole in #Mars
Numerous holes dot Mars' Swiss cheese-like terrain, but one unusual 100m-wide hole seems to lead to a lower level. Possibly formed by a #meteor impact, such openings may offer access to underground caves, potentially harboring Martian life and becoming prime exploration targets for future missions.

If you happened to be awake around 02:46:45 early Saturday morning and were looking south, you would have seen a bright fireball over our city!
You can watch the 10s video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HSe7ffMgQ0

I had a poster at the last #conference I attended and I had not done one in like 6 years (I always do oral presentations), so I thought: ill make one I would like to have on the office wall.
Im quite happy with the direction that took me (and now it is on the office wall too!)

Here's a great fireball caught last night by the camera on my house, submitting data to the Global Meteor Network.
Konnte bisher keine Infos dazu finden.
Gerne boosten.
A time-lapse of a few nights ago taken by the #meteor camera I have installed on the roof of my institute. Almost every clear night has been full of #aurora the last few weeks
The goal is to install 10-14 of these system across northern #sweden and start catching much more meteors with determined orbits (and ones that were also observed by other instruments) and possibly find #meteorites!
(And as a nice side-effect I get lots of cool videos of aurora and polar stratospheric clouds too)
