The possibilities here go far beyond <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/mediarepertoires" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mediarepertoires</span></a> and also concern the changing "structures of feeling" and <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/visualcommunication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>visualcommunication</span></a>. Andreas Hepp<p>With reference to <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@odriessens" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>odriessens</span></a></span> presentation at the conference "Mediatization vs. datafication—Dialogues or competition?": In my view, the point is not that <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/datafication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>datafication</span></a> does not also mean a "research programme", but with a different scope than <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/mediatization" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mediatization</span></a> research. The latter is concerned with capturing the interrelationship between the transformation of media and communication on the one hand and that of culture and society on the other from a long-term perspective.</p>

Andreas Hepp<p>At the “<a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Mediatization" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mediatization</span></a> vs. <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/datafication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>datafication</span></a>“ conference in Lublin tomorrow, I will give a talk on “Broadening the scope of mediatization research“, focusing on 3 theses: </p><p>(1) Datafication and the <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/automation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>automation</span></a> of <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/communication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>communication</span></a> are an inherent trend of deep mediatization.</p><p>(2) Communicative <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> is a phenomenon of societal communication—and therefore of society’s mediatization. </p><p>(3) We should expand the existing mediatization research of “consequence” with a mediatization research of “emergence”.</p>
