Other examples of crafts which are treated with contempt:
* Loom knitting - marketed to kids
* Hook-knitting (aka "knooking") - also marketed to kids
* Machine-knitting - low-end machines marketed to kids
* Macrame when it is called "friendship bracelets" (only done by kids) but not when it is called "paracord knotting" (because this version is done by The Mens and therefore has status) (YES they are BOTH macrame)

Hey look!
It’s an actual proper #macramé thing!

Due to rounded corners, diagonal walls, and an inconveniently placed closet, i can’t fit a table next to my side of the bed, but I needed a place to put my phone and glasses at night, so I made this, which I can hang off a hook near the bed.

Cool.

A dark brown macrame hanging with a pouch at the bottom and tassels, all suspenden from a dowel. The pouch and the section above it are approximately the same height, but the pouch is entirely square knots, while the upper part has a circular flower like motif made of lines of half hitches arranged in petal like shapes with a grouping of square knots in the center.

Elle me représente, et au lieu de la piquer en lui lançant des mauvais sorts, mon frère y a glissé un rouleau de papier avec un vœu qui m'a tiré une larme, et que je peux remplacer quand j'ai envie.

Petite poupée dont la robe blanche est réalisée avec la technique du macramé. L'objet a des tons blancs, ocres, et marrons. Elle a une longue chevelure brune et tient un petit livre. Posé sur la poupée, un petit papier marron déroulé, où on lit : "Que ton toi intérieur soit rempli de sérénité et que tes idées soient claires et rayonnantes". A côté, un marque-page indiquant "Orgueil & Macramé" avec trois petites photos d'autres réalisations de poupées de sortilège en macramé.

I made a 6ft tall macrame Christmas tree, having never done macrame before. It's plastic free, made of 100% cotton rope and metal rings. I started with a pattern for a 42in tall tree, and extended it, making a pattern for one section, and using a wall hanging pattern for the last section. It was originally supposed to be 7ft tall and have a trunk, but people (and cat) liked to climb inside, so I left it open. #FibreArt #macrame

My finished macrame tree! It's made of dark green rope and metal rings. The metal rings increase in size from 4in diameter to 42in diameter, forming a cone shape. There's a total of 7 metal rings, forming 6 sections of rope. Each section of rope has a different knot pattern. The top is about 7ft off the floor, the bottom is about 1ft off the floor. The rope on the bottom is trimmed to about 3 inches from the bottom ring, and combed out, so that there's about 200 3in tassels at the bottom. It's hung from a chain in our bay window.
From the inside of the tree, laying on the floor, looking up. From this angle, can see 4 concentric metal rings with a variety of dark green rope knot patterns tying the rings together.

The massive Encyclopedia of Needlework by Thérèse de Dillmont, originally printed in 1884, is available for free on Project Gutenberg. Anyone interested in any kind of #textiles work/ #fiberarts will have fun poking around in this book. Nothing specific about #weaving, but lots of finishing techniques that can be incorporated.
