So my first full day with Linux Mint (Cinn-Wilma) installed and IT IS SO AMAZING on a very very slow connection to be able to:

1. stream radio
2. browse the Tubes of Inter
3. download those updates

ALL AT ONCE, on my teeny tiny bandwidth.

It's not perfect of course, but with Windows I'd have to stop using everything and only download updates, especially the large updates across multiple boxes and devices I have.

Jetzt mal Ubuntu probieren. Linuxgeshizzle galore. 😁 #Linux #Fedora #Ubuntu #LinuxMint

Resolved: the package name is "default-jdk". Thanks @75watt for the heads up.

On Linux Mint what's the name of the package of the stock Java implementation that comes with the distro? Openjdk-<version-number>? Is 21 the latest version in the distro's repos?

I want to install Java on my Mint 22.1 Cinnamon box but there are a bazillion packages that match the strings "java" and "jdk", so I'm rying to figure out what's the right one.

I know I haven't been here for a while and it's mostly because everything's awful and on fire here in Murrikah so I'm hanging out on Bluesky a lot. But I always think about here too!!!

But I wanted to poast that I HAVE DONE IT! :blobfoxangrylaugh:

I have CUSTOM PARTITIONED MY HARD DRIVE :blobfoxangrylaugh:

I have INSTALLED LINUX! :blobfoxangrylaugh:

Without frying my computer!!!!

Genuine question here for Linux users and musicians, composers, guitar players etc. I am being told by several mouthy people online that "nobody uses linux" & "nobody would use linux for music making"

How many of you use or have used Linux as a vehicle for recording music?

Please retoot/repost to help get a handle on this, cheers!

I'm about getting rid of #LinuxMint today and use #Manjaro once again.
I just can't live without KDE.
Unfortunately, Linux Mint uses super old #KDE versions, and I don't feel to compile my GUI/WM every week or so.

I hope transition goes smoothly like the last few times.

#LinuxMint #Wifi

Since I am a die-hard Debian user and Debian is not exactly considered very user friendly what do I recommend friends that want to try out Linux?

What Debian derivative, I mean. Because that way I can give them best tech support when needed. 🍥

I keep hearing that Ubuntu and Mint are rather unpolished these days and things often break there and end up too difficult to explain (to a Linux baby).

Don't say Arch. Don't say Fedora.

I decided to try to "revive" a 9 year old Acer laptop that has been sitting on the shelf for a while by dropping Windows and installing Linux Mint with Cinnamon. After the installation I felt the system was was a little sluggish so I tried installing XCFE and WHOA, what a difference. The system is considerably faster and more responsive, the UI is quite nice and memory footprint is smaller leaving more for other apps.
I don't know what I am missing in Cinnamon so it's a good thing that "Ignorance is bliss" 🙂 Good stuff.
