Knowledge Representation and Symbolic Reasoning as another AI discipline are much older than machine learning. Already in the 4th century BCE greek philosopher Aristotle suggested ten universal categories under which to place every object of human apprehension.

These ten categories are substance, quantity, quality, relation, place, time, situation, condition, action, and passion. Aristotle's ten categories represent one of the earliest attempts to systematically classify "what there is" into basic kinds of entities and properties.
