Peter Cock<p>I'm on a roll, two blog posts about <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/ErgonomicKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ErgonomicKeyboard</span></a> design this week!</p><p>This one is about some cool maths which has been used to design a <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/SplitMechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SplitMechanicalKeyboard</span></a> and full <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/MechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboard</span></a> without diodes:</p><p><a href="https://astrobeano.blogspot.com/2025/05/topology-meets-custom-keyboard-circuit.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">astrobeano.blogspot.com/2025/0</span><span class="invisible">5/topology-meets-custom-keyboard-circuit.html</span></a></p><p>And earlier, about my custom <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/KeyboardLayout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KeyboardLayout</span></a> (which in hindsight might have fitted better on the hobby blog?):</p><p><a href="https://blastedbio.blogspot.com/2025/05/what-have-you-done-to-your-keyboard.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blastedbio.blogspot.com/2025/0</span><span class="invisible">5/what-have-you-done-to-your-keyboard.html</span></a></p>
Peter Cock<p>I’m belatedly getting into this geeky stickers on laptops thing - there are some on the outside too, but here’s my attempt at an <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/ErgonomicKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ErgonomicKeyboard</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/KeyboardLayout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KeyboardLayout</span></a> on my Japanese <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/MacBook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MacBook</span></a> 🇯🇵 ⌨️</p>
Peter Cock<p>I am well and truly down the <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/ErgonomicKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ErgonomicKeyboard</span></a> and alternative <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/KeyboardLayout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KeyboardLayout</span></a> “rabbit hole”now - touch typing this very slowly on a tweaked variant of the Hands Down Promethium layout which has R on a thumb key (which I started learning on a split keyboard), but directly on my laptop! <a href="https://github.com/peterjc/kana-chording-ke/blob/main/hands-down-on-jis-macbook.md" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/peterjc/kana-chordi</span><span class="invisible">ng-ke/blob/main/hands-down-on-jis-macbook.md</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/JapaneseMacBook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JapaneseMacBook</span></a></p>
Francesco Yoshi Gobbo :linux:<p>It has been around a year since I changed both <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/keyboardLayout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>keyboardLayout</span></a> to <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/Dvorak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dvorak</span></a> and converted to a <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/splitKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>splitKeyboard</span></a> from a conventional <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/qwerty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>qwerty</span></a> full size.</p><p>From time to time, I took some <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/MonkeyType" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MonkeyType</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/tests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tests</span></a>, to see the progress in my <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/typing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>typing</span></a> speeds and accuracy. I thought that sharing my stats might help someone which is wondering if they should take a similar road :blobaviator: </p><p>For reference, I was before typing at a speed around 100-120 wpm, but my wrist was hurting so much that I was fearing I couldn't longer type in the long run... so it is a win for me, even if now I'm (for the moment) slower :ablobwob: Unfortunately, I started using MonkeyType with an account only after I changed the keyboard, and didn't think of taking a screenshot before... I regret it so much, so if you are doing something similar, please take at least a screen of your previous data :abloblamp: but having a fresh account gives a bit of dopamine when it shoots confetti to notify you of an improvement :ablobparty: It's more like wanting to improve, and less about trying to compete with your older self.</p><p><a href="https://qoto.org/tags/Keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Keyboard</span></a> is a <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/ZSA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZSA</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/Moonlander" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Moonlander</span></a> in Dvorak layout, tilted and rotated to the outside instead of the usual inside (i find it more comfortable and natural) and with the halves widely spaced.</p><p>I use the computer e.day, for most of the day doing video-editing, 3D, moderation, some coding, a lot of chatting, study... needless to say, I have exercised every day for the past year :ablobbass: </p><p>And yes, I can still use a qwerty keyboard (maybe because of the shock therapy change), but don't like typing on it!</p><p>I would love to hear your story too!! :ablobaww: </p><p>Full quality screen:<br><a href="https://mega.nz/file/Gx5llR4Z#HEcYDGgUpYmXTaH3c_15f7GGHLUXyQD0UpS30-J3ZOg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mega.nz/file/Gx5llR4Z#HEcYDGgU</span><span class="invisible">pYmXTaH3c_15f7GGHLUXyQD0UpS30-J3ZOg</span></a></p><p>Keyboard Layout:<br><a href="https://configure.zsa.io/moonlander/layouts/P5VDq/latest/0" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">configure.zsa.io/moonlander/la</span><span class="invisible">youts/P5VDq/latest/0</span></a></p><p>Monkey profile:<br><a href="https://monkeytype.com/profile/frayoshi" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">monkeytype.com/profile/frayosh</span><span class="invisible">i</span></a></p>
Alkaris :verified_trans: :verified:<p>If anyone knows how to configure Linux to use 2 or more keyboards connected to one system for multi-tasking in multiple programs at the same time, I would like to know.</p><p>Why 2 or more keyboards connected to the same system in use at the same time?
